One Semester too early for Cornell -> Stanford Engineering?

I just received my first semester grade and was wondering if there is a legit chance of transferring to Stanford from Cornell... Also, does Stanford accept freshman transfers?

First Semester:
Multivariable Calculus for Engineers: A
Intro Chemical Engineering: A
Honors General and Inorganic Chemistry: A
First Year Writing Seminar: B

Cornell GPA: 3.79

High school: 33/660ish
SAT: 2340
SATII: math IIc: 800
Chemistry: 770
Physics: 710

solid ECs with decent leadership including founding a club but nothing spectacular

I was previously Deferred then Rejected by Stanford...

does the B in the writing class hurt that much?

It would be better to wait until your sophomore year to apply...especially since you were deferred/rejected.

Give yourself some time to establish a strong record, since transfer spots at Stanford are rare.

Wow, only 4 classes? Good GPA though. I'm happy with my 3.35 from Rice

bump .

just curious: why do you want to transfer?

i would guess... ITS FREAKING CALIFORNIA!!!!!!!

I know a first year who is applying to Stanford from Wellesley after only one semester. Many students who have just finished their first semester at college are now applying to transfer to their idea of a better college.

The last spring's rejection may weigh against you, but I doubt the B in writing will be a factor. Your other grades, in difficult subjects, show that you are able to do the work. If you can't bear the thought of another year at Cornell, then apply to Stanford as a transfer. If you don't hate Cornell as much as you want to go to Stanford, it might be in your best interest to wait another year.
