One subject or 5 subject notebook for each class?

So, I'm going to be a college freshman and I'm taking a class that I'm going to have through all of my four years, should I get 1 subject notebook each year or 5 subject notebook for all 4 years? I want to keep all of my things in one place because the lectures are divided by parts (each year new part), but than I have other classes to do the same with..Will this be too much to carry around? (I have two classes each day)

Get a one subject notebook with pre-punched holes for a binder. At the end of every year, stick the notebook in a binder and start a new notebook for the next year. Keep putting your notebooks for the class in one binder every year. That way, at the end of four years, all your books are in one place, but you won’t have to carry around a large notebook all the time. Hope that helps!

That helps, thank you so much! ^:)^

I prefer 5 subject notebooks. I have my notes from Calculus I and Calculus II all in one notebook. I should be able to fit my notes from Calculus III (this coming spring) in the same notebook. I’m taking Differential Equations and Linear Algebra this fall, and I’m going to have a separate notebook for those.

Some people prefer 1 subject notebooks. It’s really all a matter of preference. The 5 subject notebooks can get cumbersome, but it can be nice to have them to reference back to. There were several times during Calc II that I referenced back to my notes from Calc I.

@comfortablycurt are they too heavy to carry around?

I say to minimize what you carry. I would have a notepad for taking notes and a folder for homework. When I got back i would take the notes from the day and put them into the appropriate notebook that I kept in my dorm room. But really, see what works for you.

Another trick is do your homework on yellow (legal) paper…it is easy to find it in a pile (if they still do that)

It all depends. If you’ve got 5 classes in one day and you’re trying to carry around separate notebooks for each class, yes, they would get too heavy. Realize that five 5-subject notebooks would basically be the equivalent of twenty five 1-subject notebooks. It would get heavy.

If you’ve got 2 classes in one day, with individual notebooks for each, then not at all.

If you’re living on campus though, it isn’t necessarily a concern. If your dorm/apartment is close enough and you have reasonable gaps between classes, it’s quite possible to pop home during the lunch hour or something like that to exchange the morning notebooks for the afternoon notebooks.

One subject notebook. Definitely not a five subject. But I’m a weakling who would refuse to lift that much, opinions may vary. Additionally, from sophomore on I used French notebooks that I’m pretty sure don’t come in a five-subject variety. I find French paper to be good for both graphs and verbose prose. It’s the perfect compromise!
