One super strong teacher rec enough?

I have one extremely amazing teacher rec from a teacher who has known me all throughout high school, has been the newspaper advisor for the school paper which I have been editor-in-chief of, and then I'll obviously have one from my guidance leader.

Is this enough? I can get one more teacher to write one, but I already have these two in hand so I don't want to delay the application process any further. I am applying ED to UPENN and it didn't say how many recs they require...

I am applying to other top schools like NYU, Duke, Brown, Washu, etc. Will i need any more recs? I am considering asking my math teacher tomorrow...but I don't want to ask him if it's really not needed....

I thought you needed 2 TEACHER recs minimum for some schools?

hmm i don’t know if this is the case. idk if im just being dumb or what, but on many sites I don’t even see a place where they specify the number of recs I need. I was under the impression that one teacher rec and one guidance rec would be sufficient? Is this not true? Can someone verify how this works…i am new to this whole thing!

Has this teacher taught you in an academic subject (math, science, social studies, foreign language, English)? If so, then that should be a good recommendation. If not, you could submit it as a supplementary recommendation, but not as a recommendation that will count towards Penn’s (or other college’s) requirements.

Penn requires two recommendation letters from teachers in academic subjects, as well the evaluation from your guidance counselor: [Penn Admissions: High School Preparation](http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/applying/hsprep.php)

Check the requirements for each of these schools. Generally 1-2 teacher recommendations and a school counselor evaluation are required. You can easily check this information from the Common App by clicking on “My Colleges” > select a college > click “View College Details” > School Forms Required

For Penn, as an example:

Since each school can “call 'em as they see 'em” I suggest you check the web sites for each school to determine their specific needs. Some schools require zero (e.g. UC system.)

From my readings on CC, in the area of LORs, generally less is more, especially if the LOR writer is not a teacher or someone with which you’ve interacted heavily with an EC.

Thanks for the link absent. I will definitely ask my math teacher for a rec. tomorrow then.

Yes, my newspaper advisor has been my ap english teacher, journalism class teacher, and has been advising the staff I’ve been on for four years. So I think she knows me better than anyone in the school but I will definitely ask my math teacher.

Thanks for the help!
