Hey everyone, I recently heard that at least one UC has to accept you. I’m not sure if this applies to just California or what, but since I couldn’t find any info about it I’m posting this question. If you got rejected/wait list to the UCs you did apply to, can you call Riverside for example and ask if they will accept you? Can someone let me know about this program? A friend of a friend got into a UC this way so I was wondering why it isn’t more advertised.

Thanks!

The program is ELC --Eligibility Local Context for students who are in the top 9% of their graduating class, or there is a statewide version, for students in the top 9% of each years graduating class from all the schools in California. And the program doesn’t say that a UC must accept you, but it guarantees admission at a UC campus that has space if the campus/s you applied to don’t accept you – so only a guarantee if there are openings. I’ve heard Merced is often the campus that offers space in this program. I know my daughter’s school had us sign forms last year, for submission for this program, since she was eligible both at the local and statewide context. There is info on the UC admission website (the one where you file your application)

Edit: this is only for California students

Ok, thank you so much!

Also check out UC Riverside 's guaranteed acceptance if you meet certain criteria.

Note that you must apply between June 16 - July 21, 2014

Wow, that’s interesting! In 2010, a 3.0 UCGPA used to pretty much guarentee a UCR admit if you met all the requirements. This seems to be saying you would now need a 3.9!
