Hi, this is a question for a friend.
Which colleges or universities offer a one year Masters - preferably is sciences? I know a few offer Master of public health, and have found two which offer neuroscience and another offering a 5th year Masters (but you have to be a existing student).

Can you suggest others? I know a terminal Masters is not common in the US, especially - one year programs. Any suggestions would be appreciated before I apply.

Good luck trying to complete a so called one year masters program in one academic year (fall and spring semester). Unlike undergrad, the work load for taking 4 or 5 grad courses in one semester is truly overwhelming. IMO–You’re better off completing a one year masters program in 3 semesters (fall, spring, fall).

I kept getting e-mails from Columbia about their 1 year MA program in “Climate and Society”. Its not strictly a science degree, but they say it emphasizes numerical modeling. That one is 3 semesters; fall, spring, summer. It has thesis and internship options.

I thought about it for awhile, but then you look at the price tag for those 3 semesters…

~$44,000 — But I guess you get what you pay for when you get a degree with Columbia University on the header.

Why a one-year master’s program? What does your friend hope to do with it? What are his interests besides “science”? If he is trying to gain entry into the US with a student visa and with the hope that he can then get a job to stay here, that’s a difficult path. The one year student visa is no problem, provided that your friend has no background issues, but finding a job in the US with a generic master’s degree won’t be easy.

Although I’m not sure where your interests lie, I was just admitted to a 1 year Masters program at Indiana University in Biotechnology. (1 year = summer session 2, fall, spring)
