I am going to take the AP Environmental Science and AP Comparative Government exams next year.
The former is a year-long course that I have no room in my schedule for. The latter is a course our school doesn't offer.
Our school also punishes online classes by weighted them at a maximum of 4/5, pulling down WGPA and weighted class rank. My state's virtual high school has an online course for APES (only one semester too!). Comp gov interests me a lot, and I want to take a class for that (it'll cost me quite a lot money though).

What should I do? APES is so easy though, but having the course credit would be nice. Comp gov is the course I really want to take online, but it would be pricey to take through, say, CTD/GLL.

If you really want to take them for your own enjoyment and desire to learn then you should take them. If you’re worried about how admissions officers will see this they will check out your unweighted GPA. Then they will measure your course rigor. Really those two factors combined reduce the importance of weighted GPA. Some schools measure GPA on their own scales anyways. If you want to be valedictorian I would say take the classes and let the chips fall where they may. Even if somebody edges you out by a .01 of a point it is not the end-all be-all.

I say take the courses just because you will learn something and be able to test yourself and get college credit at the same time. All those things are more impotent than .03 GPA points.

Hey, what website will you use to take these courses because I

if online ap classes help your rank, do you recommend taking them? or is time better invested in ec’s and whatnot (in terms of college admissions)?

^Depends how significantly. Arbitrary number, but if it means jumping >1%, I think it’s worth it.
Also depends on how influential rank at your school is, I guess.

@tigerman333 CTD/GLL (northwestern), but it’s expensive, which is why I don’t like it too much.

well online ap’s are generally not too difficult, so it’s easy to get above a 100 (due to weighted points since its an ap)… but since school doesnt release rank until junior/senior year, you never know…

Oh. I want to take some APs online but northwestern is pretty spe sieve for me
