Alright, so I’m looking for some places to take an online AP class for credit. I already know a lot, but I’m still looking just to see my options and hopefully this thread will benefit other students as well (:
Online AP Providers I know of:
• Accelerate Education
• Acellus
• APEX
• AP Homeschoolers x
• CodeHS x
• Connections Advanced Academics
• CTD
• CTY
• Edhesive
• Edmentum
• Ed Options Academy
• Elite Open School
• FLVS x
• Fuel Education
• HSLDA Online Academy x
• JVLA x
• K12
• Keystone National High School x
• Laurel Springs School
• Lucid Education x
• MiddleBury Languages
• NUVHS
• Stanford University Online High School
• The Potter’s School x
• UCscout x
• VHS Learning x
I’ve put an “x” next to those I think are the best based on research or actually taking a class. There are soo many online AP Providers, yet so little of them are good and priced fairly. These are all places you can take an indivdiual course and get credit - they are all somehow teacher-led (so not like EDX, Shmoop, Study.com none of that). If anyone has any reccomendations at all, please share.
My youngest daughter used Laurel Springs and it worked well for her. Teachers are responsive to questions and assignments. However, she did not take the AP exam. She was not interested. My other daughter used Keystone. It seemed that she was more on her own. Of course, she got a 5 on the exam, so no complaints.
@mjt182 I think it was either world history or European history. She did not do any outside studying. She told me she would turn the history into a narrative/story and then imagine how it would be if an event did not happen or happened differently. This helped cement the details and significance of the events in her own mind. And, of course, route memorization of facts.
I was able to take a VHS course as part of a class, so I didn’t need to spend any money. However, I would recommend VHS; my teachers were pretty good. That said, I didn’t take any APs, so I don’t know how the teachers are. VHS is pretty good at offering support and giving you the chance to pace yourself, so I would recommend it.
