I was wondering how to take AP courses online and which are the best.

<p>As a general rule, it is not a good idea to take subjects that require explanation/development of intuition, such as chemistry/physics. Subjects such as English could be done online, since the actual class does not cover much substantial information and your online teacher can give feedback on your essays too.</p>

<p>I believe Stanford’s EPGY online HS is highly regarded. I know homeschooled kids who are students there and very satisfied. You can apply to enroll in single courses for $3500, so rather expensive. They have lots of AP and also college level courses.</p>
<p>The only online school I have personal experience with is U Missouri’s online HS. My daughter was a full-time student there for a year and a half. It looks like the AP course fees just went up, $600 for a year-long course, up from less than $400, but still not bad. The quality varies widely. I don’t recommend Euro History. Teacher is slow grader and not enough feedback, too many ambiguous questions on tests. Calculus teacher is very good and engages with the students, but their chosen text is too easy with not enough hard problems. It’s good enough to get an easy 5, but not so great for prep for next level. Also they only offer AB. Art history has a great teacher, but I think that sort of class is better taught in a classroom situation. You can self-study it, but you have to be very disciplined since there is an avalanche of info to absorb. </p>
<p>The course I highly recommend there is AP Lit. The teacher is fabulous. So much detailed feedback on essays and long responses to e-mailed questions. My daughter managed to get a 5 on the test and you know what the AP Lit curve is like. My daughter is a math kid who finds the CR part of SAT the most challenging of all the standardized tests. I consider that teacher a miracle worker.</p>
<p>I don’t know how other online courses are structured, but for MUHigh you need to find an approved local proctor, like a university testing center or library. Each semester you have 2 exams mailed to the proctor, usually worth a bit over half of points. The rest of work is submitted directly online.</p>
<p>EPGY is good</p>
<p>I’ve done all of my APs through Florida Virtual School despite living in South Carolina, and for the most part, I’ve found that they’re very helpful and easy to understand (though I’ve heard horror stories about Environmental Science).</p>
<p>In general, I cannot agree more with SleepingAway. Economics and English are probably your best bets.</p>

She got a 5 on the AP test, did she also receive an A on the class?
Did your daughter also take AP Lang?
If yes, did she find AP Lit much harder than AP Lang?</p>

<p>She was only at MUhigh for one year and then returned to her brick-and-mortar local school which does not offer either English AP. Teachers in that dept. insist on teaching their favorite self-designed classes like Shakespeare, Science fiction, Bible as Lit. So no, didn’t have AP Lang. Yes, an ‘A’ for Lit, both semesters.</p>
<p>What she did find rather striking after her return to regular HS was how much easier the AP history is when done with a group. She did AP Euro online then APUSH at local school. Sitting in class with the others every day, watching documentaries, bouncing ideas off one another. Bombarded with all the info constantly whether or not she spent hours reading. Huge difference.</p>

<p>But other than Stanford’s EPGY, are there any other places to take online
AP exam preps? I really want to take microeconomics/statistics this year but my school doesn’t offer it and Stanford’s EPGY also doesn’t offer those courses .</p>
