Online App Question

On the test information page, are you supposed to write the names of the AP tests that you are going to take or only the ones that you have already taken?

I would definitely think it's only the ones you have taken.

I agree with RCMan13, the section where you list the classes for senior year would be the place to show off the AP's your taking.

Thanks both of you.

What happens if there isn't enough room for all the AP tests you've taken? Is there an "additional info" page like the common app? (I haven't gotten that far yet on the stanford app, just the basics)

You can put it into the section where they ask if there is anything else you'd like to share. But when you send the AP report to the school, they'll see you've taken the tests anyway. I am 99.99% positive that AP grades don't play a part in the admissions process, so you don't have to worry about the ones you've taken showing up on the app.

I thought AP scores were self-reported and you didn't need to send a copy?

Also, I think it looks bad if you don't list all your scores because they'll be like, "you took the AP class... but not the exam?". or they might infer that you did poorly and don't want to report the score.

I think the self-reporting theory depends on which school, I guess Stanford might be different, I'm not sure

What if you don't want to put the scores down because you aren't happy with them? You think anything would happen?

I know if you want credit at Stanford then you select them as a school to send them to but what if you wouldn't receive credit for them anyways and you don't send them and write them on the app. Will they be able to find out that you took some AP tests later on?

doesnt the app ask for scores received and tests TO BE taken? that's what i was last year at least.

don't fret too much over this section guys. most schools don't put a lot of weight on AP scores for several reasons. 1) they can't verify them like SAT scores, because that would take too much effort and manpower. you simply self-report on the honor basis. no actual score reporting, not until you get accepted and even then its just to get credit 2) not all schools offer APs. 3) There's only so many spaces, and there's people out there that don't have enough places to put all their fives or all their scores, good or bad.

an admission officer told us (at camp at stanford) that they look at AP scores as an extra good thing. of course they see them, but it isnt weighed heavily in the process. He told us they simply put the spaces there so kids don't call in and ask, "where do i write down my AP scores."

with that said, i don't know if you should intentionally not report scores. (oh by the way, if you sent in a score report when you took APs, it goes to the registrar, not the admissions office, so don't rely on your reader to know your scores by the report you sent in.). in my case, i filled up the 12 spaces (was it 12?) with six AP's junior year, and the six i was taking senior year. luckily, there wasnt any room for my 1 in comp sci AB. so stanford (with however many spaces there were) never knew of my 1, but then again, i dont think it wouldve made much of a difference. the other girl from my school who applied to stanford my year only reported like 2 scores, even though she took around 6 or 7 by that time. she was rejected, but this is just one case remember and correlation != causation.

so they aren't suppose to take into consideration certain things like grammar or AP scores or not reporting of AP scores... but if you think theyll think it, then you they probably will think it, and whether they're suppose to or not, they will build a picture of you in their mind with that info, maybe at the subtlest level.

there are only 6 spots. :( i wish there were 12.

AP scores aren't really important in college admissions x3rose.

APPLICANT 1
2400 SAT I
10 AP 5's by Junior year

APPLICANT 2
2200 SAT I
10 AP 3's by Junior year

Colleges will take Applicant 2 everytime if somehow all else was considered equal.

what? that doesnt make sense?
and whatever you're reasoning you can't say "everytime"

Here's a question that I have regarding the online application.

When I viewed my Basic Information Form as a PDF file, I saw that on the signature page there were requirements that a parent/guardian and a guidance counselor sign a statement for single choice early action. However, these requirements do not show up in the online application. I assume that these signatures can be mailed after Form 1 is submitted online. Is this correct?

yeah you gotta print it out and mail
