Online App Says: Invalid Characters Found

Does anyone know how I'm supposed to figure out where the invalid characters are on an online app for an essay if I get this type of message?:

Invalid characters found!
Valid characters are:
Aa-Zz,0-9!@#$%^&*()-+";:'.,/ =_?|

urrrragh so annoying!

Figure out which ones you used that weren’t among those characters? Try using Ctrl-F.

I thought the “Find” function was meant for characters that were next to each other, so if I put all the valid characters in nothing will come up. And if I put individual characters in it’s only going to go through the document for each letter. I’m not so great with computers so maybe I’m just missing something.

look for the invalid character, it can’t be that hard, i mean it will be obviously different, check your essays and any text box.

I meant try punching in characters that aren’t listed under those in “Find”, see if it pops up. Time consuming, but if you can’t find it by eye, what can you do?

Ok, what I’m going to try is pasting the essay in in pieces and keep clicking on the “save” button after each paste and see when it comes up. When it comes up that must mean it’s in the section I just pasted.

Aha! Found it! For some reason, when the document is copied and pasted from word, this symbol: ’ looks different than when it’s directly typed into the text box, so they counted it as an invalid character. Tricky tricky tricky!
