I really wasn't bothered by this until I saw a disturbing thread on the NYU boards...

I have a tradition of submitting my application at practically the last minute, ie 11:30 on the night of the deadline! However I first noticed this with the Columbia App that I submitted, even though I got it in before midnight... their server had my submission time-stamped for January 3rd (deadline was 1/2). I thought it was no biggy.... it was timestamped at 12:30 and I got all my confirmation emails, surely it wouldnt make a difference.

Well then came my NYU app... I was at a debate tournament so I really didn't have much of a chance to do some final editing before Sunday so I was left submitting it past 11 again. NYU is one of my match schools (and one that I really like) so I would be devastated if I didn't get in because of some minor technicality like timezones. All my supplemental stuff was sent in PLENTY of time... back in December.

So, asssuming all my suplemental papers were mailed in... will having the online application timestamped past the deadline (albeit by mere minutes) affect my application, or will the admissions office treat it all the same.

If you're that worried, call them up. If they're annoyed of students calling them up, ask your guidance counselor. At least that's what my friend did.

Hah my guidance counselor is pretty ignorant... if it's not Baylor then she is outside her field of expertise.

She's very nice and well meaning, but she's the kind of counselor if you brought up going to "University of Pennsylvania" she'd reply with "Penn State?"

So, I'll probably call on Tuesday... but just to stop my panic attack I was hoping for some re-assurance

Remember that the college computer's internal clock may not always be accurate, just like here on CC. But the college's clock is the law, not your computer's clock.

Bottom line, don't wait until the last minute to submit !!! Anything could go wrong, i.e. server overload, power failure, etc.

Of course I realize that by "their clock" my application will have techinically been late... the matter is if colleges really care if they received their application at 12:20, Im sure plenty of kids do this... but will they end up throwing my app in with the rest of the regular decisions, or evaluate it in a different way... if at all.
