online BS in Mechanical engineering?

Hi guys,

A long shot… but are there any schools that offer BS in Mechanical engineering fully online (ABET accreditation is a must)?
I know there is ECPI with BS in Mechatronics, but that’s not quite the same.
Cost does not matter, as long as it’s accredited and is fully online.

Thank you!

It appears that ABET has not yet accredited any fully online mechanical engineering programs.

University of North Dakota has an ABET-accredited, mostly online program, but it requires some summer on-campus lab work.

http://und.edu/academics/extended-learning/online-distance/degrees/mechanical-engineering/ is the UND mostly-online with on-campus labs ME program web site.

@ucbalumnus Thanks for the correction. I guess my copy and paste didn’t quite work the second time!

Penn State all the way!

Penn State does not offer an online ME degree. As was alluded to above, no one does. You need time in the lab. Several get you close, but that is very likely as close as it’ll ever get. Unlike, say software engineering where it’s all screen based, ME isn’t. It’s hard to make a wind tunnel online.

If ABET accredidates a fully onine program in ME, then ABET has ceased to be relevant. You need to do lab work to be a competant engineer.

^ but not a competent speller.
