I was advised to start a new thread in this forum section to ask for advice on my current predicament.
To reiterate my situation. I am hoping to go back to school this fall but due to my job and family obligations I can only attend an online/distance learning bachelors program.
I was in a state college a few year ago with approximately 60 credits completed with a standing GPA of 3.89 but had to put my academics on hold due to my father getting severely sick and I had to stop to take care of him and deal with the financial obligations of the household. I am finally in a place in my life where I can go back and finish my degree but cannot afford to quit my job to go back to school online thus the need for an online bachelors program.
So far I have applied to the following schools:
-Colorado State University Global Campus - Accepted
-University of Massachusetts (Dartmouth) - Accepted
-University of Massachusetts (Lowell) - Accepted
-University of Massachusetts (Amherst) - Pending Decision
My career goal is to get into the finance or management industry upon graduation. Am currently an insurance agent.
If I want to get into Merill Lynch, UBS, Management Consulting (I know Bain, BCG and McKinsey are pretty much out of the question and impossible for someone in my position, maybe a lower tier firm?) are there any online bachelor programs I should look at in particular in addition to the ones I have already applied to?
Also, what is your opinion on a Bachelors in Business Administration vs. a Bachelors in Finance? I am having trouble choosing between the two and the only program I can find so far with a Finance major is UMass Amherst. I have been told a BBA is pretty much useless, is that true?
Really hoping I can get into Amherst as that seems like the only top tier school our of the ones I have discovered so far. Bain & Company actually recruits from this institution but I am sure it is only at a limited capacity. Since Amherst requires everything to be mailed it is taking forever to know their decision.
Please advise. Thanks!
