I just received an email invitation to an online chat on March 9...It reads:

"Thanks for your interest in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As you go through the college admissions process, we want to do everything possible to help you get to know us. As a part of this effort, we'd like to invite you to an ONLINE CHAT.

Date: Thursday, March 9, 2006
Time: 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm Eastern Time

During the chat, current students and members of the admissions staff will be available to answer any questions you may have about life at Carolina.

To participate in the chat session, simply follow the directions on our chat page.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to answer your questions or help with your college plans. We look forward to learning more about you in the months ahead.

Sincerely,

Did anyone else get this email? Do you think it is like a likely letter?

My daughter use to get those but she hasn't received one since she submitted her application. I was under the impression it was, at this point, geared towards juniors. I think a lot of people are no longer receiving the invites.

I got the email too, but I doubt it's an acceptance letter. I've been getting this even before I submitted my application. But don't give your hopes up. Maybe this chatting might help you. Good luck!!

Of course its not a likely letter, everyone who applied to UNC got the same email.

To whenwillitbeover - If you have never received one of the chat room invites I can see why you might wonder about it's meaning. I think many people are confused by Carolina's communications due to the lack of consistency in who gets what. I think part of the problem might be when you actually registered for your own UNC home page. My daughter registed in the mid-part of her junior year so she is accustomed to getting the invites. I wish you luck!

I see what you mean...yeah I only registered in December so this is the first email like this that I've ever gotten. When I first read it, I thought "the months ahead" and other phrases maybe meant something...I can see how it would be an invite for people who are looking at Carolina but haven't applied...i got excited cause it's not something that would make sense to send to someone who has already applied, unless it meant a likely...so I guess it's just one of their normal invites. oh well.

Keep your eyes open for those chat invites because last year a guy received one for admitted students only and he hadn't been notified of his acceptance yet - you never know!

FYI: My D emailed and asked who tomorrow's chat is for and why we did not get an email. A gentleman in recruitment answered and said it is open to anyone that has questions and that you don't have to be "invited" to join. It really sounded like it was for those that have not applied yet but I could be wrong.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!

(this whole thread doesn't matter cause I just got a Likely Letter! OOS! oh my)

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!

:) Thanks. good luck to your daughter as well!

I got the chat invite and I was deferred EA, and I'm definitely no shoe-in, considering I'm OOS.
