I just registered at my CC for the fall 2012 semester and noticed that most online classes were filling up fast. What are online classes like? I signed up for one partially-online class (honors personal growth) mainly for the reason it meets one day per week. I was hesitant however because the online session was TBA, so hopefully it doesn't conflict with my schedule. Do I just go on my computer at home or maybe use one in the library? Do online classes allow for more independence? Are they flexible? Is it easy to slack off? Is it a lot of busy work? They seem to be popular, hopefully this one I registered for is okay, even though the prof only had one review on rate my prof.com!!!

I’m taking online classes from a CC right now. They are really flexible class and you are on your own to stay on top of the work and when to submit it. One of them requires me to log on three times a week and post homework answers where the other one just requires me to do it before the deadline. It depends on the professor. You are basically learning by yourself though as I think its more difficult to get help.

Hmmmm definitely sounds like something I might like. I’ll see how this one goes. Might be perfect for a shy person like me.

Online classes here, too. English Lit never meets in person, we have to post about 4 short write-ups per week and have “discussions” about them in a forum-like environment. Plus there are three longer essays to be dropped in an area that is private to the instructor. Math has an online “lecture” (just a narrator explaining problems that appear on the screen) and then we do some homework problems and then take the online quiz. (Homework is not scored, but the quiz is.) There are four tests administered on campus in the evenings. This is the quarter system, by the way.

That’s pretty cool. I’m definitely going to consider taking some classes like that. I’m usually really quiet in class and hate discussions/presentations and stuff, turn bright red, all that. I mean I’ve been improving and will get over it soon but I might opt for some classes like that.

Can you do extra work on one day in order to skip the lesson on the next day?
