Would taking online college credit classes help me in my college application. Would take these from Harvard!
I also got acceptance from Summer@Brown, should i attend that which is $2700 for one week or $1500 from Harvard online course which includes one undergraduate course…
I am looking for the option which helps me the most in my college application
Neither of these will get you admitted to a college or university that would not already admit you. If you want to study that subject, and you don’t care that you could end up with a bad college grade that will follow you for the rest of your life, go ahead and spend the money.
These programs primarily are ways for the colleges and universities to make extra money. For some students, they are useful ways to extend their learning in a particular subject area that they can’t cover during the regular school year, or to test out college life. Most students are better served by getting a summer job for the work experience and income.
Agree with @happymomof1: neither will make a whit of difference to your application- they are as likely to be viewed as summer activities for privileged students as anything. Imo, only do either program if it is something you are genuinely interested in doing and it fits with the larger story you will be telling about yourself.
Dean of Admissions at Princeton once said that they want you to do something with your summers, but they don’t really care what it is: they care what you do with the experience. All of the adcomms people that I have ever heard speak (and as a parent who has done the admissions rounds a fair few times, not to mention working in universities, that is a lot of people) emphasize that they can be impressed by a summer job mowing lawns or a camp counselor as a college class or an international service trip.
