"This fall, students across the country will be able to locate crimes in their area with UCrime.com. The new Web site is a crime report aggregator featuring accurate reports of college-related crimes with online maps pinpointing the crimes locations."

Personally, I look at the local publication of the school I will be transferring to, where they print the police logs from both town and university police and post them on their website too. It's very informative. I've learned UGA has what is apparently a widespread issue with underage drinking, underage DUIs and fake IDS; that I shouldn't park on a certain street cause there are lots of break ins, and out of the two months I've been looking only one crime with a possible violent outcome was reported (a student being held at gunpoint).

I decided to start following it myself for much the same reason the crime website exists, peace of mind and ideas about my safety.

In the last 10 days, at least 6 people have been robbed within 5 blocks of my son's dorm, but I don't think any would technically be considered "on campus". Campus crimes are the only crimes that must be reported by law. The local newspaper seems to be the best source, but students don't take the time to read them and have no idea what's going on around them.
