Online course vs. prep books

I'll be taking the October SAT. I was wondering what would be the most beneficial in raising my score. Should I use up all the Collegeboard's online practice tests and then go through some prep books?
Or should I go through as many prep books first and then leave the online practice tests for finishing up my study before the tests? (If I do this, I probably won't have too much time to analyze those online practice tests.)

What do you guys think of Kaplan and McGraw Hill books?

By the way, where do you find those past PSATs and the 3 free practice tests released from the collegeboard website? Also, is it worth buying the 10Real (red) sat books? I don't think they sell it anymore..
