My daughter is a Sophomore and currently enrolled in Spanish III. As a junior, she doesn’t have enough room in her schedule to continue with Spanish IV. Most colleges need at least 3 years of Foreign Language. Are there any online courses that can satisfy this requirement? Have any of you tried going this route?
Thanks.
I do not know of any college or university that specifically requires three years of foreign language for admission. Do check your daughter’s potential list again very carefully. You will probably see the word “recommended” rather than the word “required”. This is because the admissions offices recognize that many students have schedule conflicts just like your daughter’s, and others attend high schools with very limited foreign language offerings. Provided the rest of her high school record is solid, she doesn’t need to worry about trying to squeeze in extra classes.
All that said, if she is very interested in continuing her language studies, she should consult with her current teacher and the other language teachers at her high school. They will have good ideas for her.
Thank you so much happymomof1. That is very reassuring. I always assumed it was “required” to have at least 3 years. Thanks a lot.
