Online courses?

I have free credits to the local community college and I don't know what I should take. I decided that Astronomy and Precalculus are what I might want to take but Astronomy is an online class.

Can someone tell me about online classes? What are they like? Are they recommended?

I know a young lady from a very rural school that didn't offer any AP courses and they lost their Latin teacher after the first year, so she took Latin online after that. She got into an elite school, and part of the reason she did, I beleive is that she took the initiative to take courses not offered at her school.

Just make sure that any work you have submitted online is graded promptly. If it isn't graded, it may have been "lost in the system" somehow, and unavailable for grading. This happened to my son with an online class he was taking through his high school. By the time I learned about it, it was WAY late in the senior year. The teacher said that if he did certain assignments and handed them to her personally he could get a "D" in class, and therefore pass -- this for a kid with an otherwise 3.8 GPA. To make a long story short, the principal ended up waiving the class, and they were taking a hard look at how they managed online classes. So stay on top of things, and make sure you are getting credit for the work you are doing.

I actually took an online class this semester. It was Honors Astronomy. It was pretty good. I learned quite a bit of information. I ended up with a 98 in the class.

Moominmama, that happened to me as well. Well, it didn't really affect my grade. But I uploaded two assignments onto the server but somehow they didn't get uploaded, and he blamed it on me. So I ended up with two 0's in the gradebook. But it only brought the grade for that grading period down to a 97.

So, if you do take an online class make sure that all of your assignments get uploaded correctly or it will mess everything up for you.
