Online Courses

My school doesnt seem to offer the classes that most of the people here do, atleast my school's website doesnt list them. I'd have to make an appointment with a counselor to get a course list, which takes time :/.

Anyways, assuming that the classes listed on my school's site is all that's there, I would like to know if it is possible to take an online course (Not sure if my school offers them thru the school..) and still be able to put the courses I do online, on my college app.

I'm a sophomore right now, and from what it looks like, I won't be able to take statistics, chem AP, calculus BC (there's just calculus AP offered, after pre-calc).

I like online classes. I do so much better in them than in classes at my school. However, some kids absolutely hate online courses and prefer to be taught by an actual teacher. You sort of have to be an independent learner to take online courses.

This year I took Personal Fitness (95%) and Algebra 2 (93%) through Florida Virtual School and I learned alot through them. This summer I'll be retaking my first semester of chemistry in addition to Life Management Skills, online. Then next year (junior), I'll be taking AP English Language and maybe AP Macroeconomics through FLVS.

If you want to try it out, learn about the drop policy in case you don't enjoy online learning. Personally, I like it because you can move at your own place, work from anywhere, and get immediate feedback from your teacher.

Last year I took an AP course not offered at my school online. Online courses are not that uncommon at my school and it shows up on my transcript and is figured into my GPA. I did well (I got an A), but I the whole online course thing wasn't my favorite thing in the world. I would recommend talking to your GC about setting online classes up so they can go on your transcript.

I've never had to worry about my online courses showing up on my transcript. If they don't show up, then definitely go see your guidance counselor.
