Hey guys. I was just wondering how many of you have taken online classes. I will be taking Honors Psychology and AP U.S. History through UCCP Online. For those of you that have, which program did you use and what were your experiences like? Thanks!

i took an online honors physics class through a pbs station in kentucky. the teacher was excellent and the class had an excellent setup. i learned more than i would have at my school, so it was def worth it. only problem is that you have to be careful or you can easily... very easily - procrastinate... especially if you're a senior :D

Sacramento89, how much did you pay one credit thru UCCP?

Thank you, Adamo_e22! :) Each class through UCCP is $300 and AP courses are $325. Students are also responsible for textbooks. I know... Very spendy... lol

do you know an equivalent of UCCP for those not living in California ( such as myself ) ?

I've taken language courses and a physical fitness course through CyberSchool in Oregon and Florida Virtual School. Both were very good, but as adamo said, it's easy to procrastinate.

I am doing AP classes at Florida Virtual School. Over 5 credits earned :)

I've taken 3 AP classes online through Apex. They seem to be pretty good and offer a pretty wide selection of classes. No complaints here. (they provide textbooks, as a side note)

Don't know about price. School districts have to pay for online classes in PA by law, so I get to take them for free (if kids in PA aren't taking advantage of this, they're nuts lol).

Wow, I wish I could take the courses for free! lol That is amazing! :D

however, if you take the AP courses in the summer, you have about almost a year left for the exam itself?? dont you land up forgetting the material?

Yeah, that's true. I don't think I'd want to cram a whole AP in the summer and then have to constantly have to refresh myself throughout the year. But I was wondering... For those who are taking online classes, do you feel like you're learning about as much as you would lin a face-to-face class? One of my teachers said taking online courses would be a waste of money!

I personally dont think I'd be comfortable with online courses.. I like face-face interaction as opposed to watching videos and stuff.. that's kinda boring too..

That's true, I guess it depends on the person. At times, I really do like teacher interaction, but then a lot of the time, I don't really need it. If I was taking Calculus online or something, then yes, believe me, I'd need some live interaction. But since I'm doing writing/reading-involved courses, I don't think it'll be that big of a deal... I hope... :)

true... doing math courses ( precalc, calc, etc ) online would be a big pain in the neck for me.. I wouldnt even think about it... English, History and Foreign Language courses would be a different issue..

That's EXACTLY how I feel. I love English... It just comes so naturally to me. But, math on the other hand... Wow. I mean, I can usually get a good grade in the class, but I just have to really work at it compared to my other classes, you know?

Yeah.. I can understand how you feel... Although, I usually have no probs with my math here in the US ( its pretty easy.. ) .. However, in my previous Indian school, i used to face the same problem as you.. Had to sit for more time compared to the other subjects to understand the material..

Honestly, i just hate the idea of not havign a face-to-face interactino with teachers or anyone for that matter.. I prefer meeting and talking to people in person than on the phone or whatever.. but anyways, thats just me :p I'd do humanities courses online if I had to but i'd try avoiding it

Yeah, that's the thing - I have to do it. There's a conflict in my schedule for next year and I would've had to drop Leadership if I wanted to do AP. I can't do that since I was elected class president. But, I still want to take it and get credits for it, so I'll do it online.

I want to take AP Calc BC online, but how do the colleges that you apply to know they you took it or will be talking it if you are a senior, and what happens if your school won't let you take the AP test for it? (private school)

Hmmm... I know that here in California, the course must be added to your school's official course list so that colleges will accept the credit and grant you the honors point(s). I assume your school would let you take the AP test. That'd be wrong if they didn't... I mean, you took the course for the AP exam! :)
