Online economics

Does anyone have any information or knowledge about the micro and macroeconomics classes that are offered online at UF? My daughter needs both of those classes, but they appear to only be offered online (at least for next semester). She is not too happy about not being able to have the class in person. Any info. is appreciated.

My daughter took one of the classes and liked it. It’s better to take the class online than hike across campus to sit in an auditorium with 200 other students…

She still has access to office hours, etc., like any other class and it will add a bit of flexibility to her schedule.

My daughter loves her online classes. They are nothing like FLVS if that is the concern.

So two classes that are required for business majors and probably sought by many others are only taught online at UF in a Fall or Spring? That makes no sense. Summer sure. Florida has a great reputation and is a major university. Baffling.

I’m sure at UF, over a thousand students want to take one of those two classes, every fall and spring. At a public university (this isn’t a $50K+ a year in tuition private school) it simply makes sense to teach it in a large lecture. Taking large lectures and turning them into online classes to deliver the lecture also makes sense.

Kids these days prefer watching a lecture online vs sitting in a large lecture hall with 200 other students. Having a few of these types of online classes as Freshman/sophomores, also makes it a lot easier to get the schedule you need and stay on track for graduation.

UFOnline (and the state of Florida) has put a lot of $ and time into developing these classes, and it shows.

On a side note, I think in the past, before they made them available online, UF would record these type of lectures on tape and then play them for students in smaller class rooms. Talk about BLAH! Hiking across campus to watch a video tape…

My son is in macro (ECO 2013) - online class with exams on campus. He has the option to attend the lectures live, but prefers to watch them online, mainly because he can go at 1.5X speed and get through them faster. He loves his professor who is really responsive via email, office hours etc.

My son likes this class so much that I wonder if he should minor in something business-related (he’s in CISE).

It is one class that translates very well online. I wouldn’t worry about that at all.

Thank you all - I feel better about it now.
