Online engineering degree... what do you think?

Hello all,

I am currently attending a state school majoring in biochem. and trying to change my major to engineering.. of the Biomedical sort, preferably bio-mechanics. However, due to a couple of less than stellar semesters my grades do not meet college entrance requirements to change my major. So I'm not sure what to do but, first let me give you a bit of background. I was previously attending a smaller and less competitive school and doing fairly well however, due to the fact that I'm 27, a military veteran and married with a child, being a full-time student with a part-time job doesn't quite cut it in my situation. So, I had to leave that school and move to a bigger city to find work. Now that I've moved and found a reasonably well paying job i am having a terrible time focusing and excelling in classes i need to change my major. I can't quit my job and i won't entertain quitting or taking a break from school, so don't even suggest it.

Now the biggest problem is that my time is extremely limited with respect to study/class time which is even more important now that I'm at a school with stricter entrance requirements. So i did some research and found out about University of North Dakota's Online Engineering program (which is abet accredited) and it isn't as strenuous to get into as my current school. Going this route "seems" to be a perfect fit considering my life situation and i have several friends in my same situation that are/have done online schools with success. However, none of my friends have done anything as technical or rigorous as engineering. I've looked online and couldn't find any reviews or blogs from past or current UND online engineering students.

-Has anyone here attended UND online engineering or knows of someone who has?
-What would be some setbacks or downfalls be to going this route?
-I know online programs get a bad rap but UND's program doesn't seem to be of the likes of Phoenix and others. Could being a engineering online student be a potential barrier?

Any other advice or suggestions are welcomed.

Note that summers at UND to take lab courses are required for these degree programs. They are also listed as needing 6+ years to complete.
