I got a letter in the mail last month about the English Placement Challenge. Apparently it's for incoming students to challenge their English course placement. It involves reading a few passages and writing an essay, I believe.

Can anyone who has done with before count on it? My ACT score places me out of both first and second year English. Is there a point in taking the challenge, or have I placed as high as I can?

I think that’s as much as you can place out of.

If I have not yet received the english placement letter and I am entering in fall should I call them and be concerned or are people still receiving them. My orientation is the second session.

Yeah, you’ve placed as high as you can. Depending on your major, you may not have to take anymore English or literature classes at LSU.

Julius, you can always call and ask. It can’t hurt. I don’t know if anyone here has direct knowledge of whether they are still sending the letters out still.

They are not still sending out letters. I guess mine got lost in the mail or was just never sent. Is this typical of LSU?

I never received a letter telling me where I placed (I figured that out on their own), but just something telling me how to challenge my placement.

I just read through the placement guidelines and found that my ACT automatically gave me credit for two years of English:

I would just call and ask. The URL for the online placement challenge is https://lsu.imoat.net/ . Your username and password is your LSU ID, but you need to change it to social security format. Instead of xx-xxx-xxxx, change the number to xxx-xx-xxxx.
