Online High School List

Hi,

Can you guys list down all high schools available for home schoolers?
Please comment on its prestige too...

P.S. I though I have posted this. Why on earth it is removed?

Stanford Online High School, just recently accredited, and I can only imagine it's very awesome. IIRC, it's a 3 year school (you apply after your freshman year). I took EPGY classes (none requiring live sessions, all math) and enjoyed them for the most part.

arnoc, what's the most advanced univ level math course are you currently taking?

My senior year, I took AP Calculus BC, Elementary Number Theory, and Introduction to Logic through EPGY. Number Theory and Logic are considered university-level classes (MA 152 and MA 157). In the fall semester, I'm going to be taking Calculus III and Honors Discrete Probability at my college.

Impressive! Go on with your endeavor...

What's the full title for IIRC, arnoc?

If I Remember Correctly.

Anyone knows how good is the instruction quality/teaching quality from Laurel Springs School and Apex Learning?

FWIW, I know one homeschooling family which raved about Laurel Springs. The mother liked how her D wasn't allowed to mindlessly mark off classes as complete, that she needed to demonstrate mastery in order to move on. I don't know if that differs from other programs.

Cool! I heard many stars are using that program (Laurel's). Hollywood ones, that is.

I've heard good things about Keystone National High School.

What have you heard about Keystone?

Depends on where you live.

Florida Virtual School is free for Floridians and it owns Keystone High.

Not many things specifically, but from what I read students were generally happy with the program and teachers and felt like they were learning a lot. It can be a little $$$ though.

I would like to correct a statment made in an earlier post. Keystone National High is NOT owned by Florida Virtual School (FLVS). Keystone National High is owned by KC Distance Learning. Aventa Learning is also owned by this same company, and FLVS licenses (or rents) some of Aventa's courses. Many virtual programs around the country use Aventa's courses. They are well written.

I know this information because I have been teaching for Aventa Learning and Keystone for 3 years now. We also live in FL and my daughter homeschools with classes from both Keystone and FLVS.

For those of you with middle schoolers, Keystone is offering middle school courses beginning this year (2008-2009).

I'm not home-schooled, but I love Florida Virtual School (FLVS). I've taken plenty of extra classes through them (I plan on taking at least seven). If you live in Florida, the classes are totally free (which is the only reason I can take any classes other than my regular high school classes).

Why did you take that many? Wouldn't you worry you will get a lot of Cs and the colleges will see that? I mean the courses you take from FLVS are in addition to your courseload at your own high school....That's plenty for a normal human being to handle, don't you think? Unless you don't mind having a lot of C's and D's. Are you? I mean grades are not that important but still, they count in the admissions process. And, I want to be able to have the opportunities to discuss with all those intelligent, talented and brightest people that are in the best colleges in the country. And, if I don't have the grades, I will have to wait until grad school to be able to do that!!!

Extra classes does not mean that the student will get C's and D's. My own daughter took a total of 7 classes her freshman year and 8 classes her sophomore year. Her score were really good. Some students are really good at handling the extra load. And if SharkObsessed's face to face school is like our FL school, the only way to get AP classes is to go online. FL public schools are very sad in comparison to TX and CA (other states we have lived in) in that regard.

Shark said extra classes and go on to say at least 7. I assume that he means about 5 classes from his school and 7 classes outside. Did you get what I mean now? I mean I am taking 10 classes per year in my school if you insist to know. I know about handling that extra work that you were talking about before.

we3morenos - what do you think of Keystone? Do the classes cover the content well? What are the tests like? Are the teachers good? Do you like the text books they use?
