I was wondering if you guys have any tips to be successful in an online math class. It's a bit difficult to stay on task sometimes because you are responsible for learning all the material yourself (well, technically you're responsible for that in every class, but at least in on-campus classes the instructor takes care of the teaching part). And the main reason I find it a bit difficult is because of a busy schedule and lack of good time management skills.

Practice problems, and lots of them.

Sorry, there isn’t an easy shortcut.

Khan Academy has been very helpful for me in some of the math topics I’ve self taught.

There are some great tutorial videos there.

Does your school have a tutoring center? Most schools offer some kind of free tutoring.

Be naturally gifted.

if not,

Get better time management skills. Reserve the weekend for school if you have to work during the week (if possible).

Don’t fall behind.

Don’t fall behind. Needed to be said twice.

To reiterate the above…don’t fall behind.

Math isn’t a good subject to fall behind in and try to cram and get caught up. It takes practice and repetition. A lot of subjects are crammable…but math isn’t one of them.

Thank you for your help, and yes, I really do need to work on my time management skills…

Does anyone have some more specific tips/advice on how to be successful in an online math class? Like do you take notes while reading the chapter in the textbooks? Or do you just do the assigned homework/practice problems?

And comfortablycurt, my school does have a tutoring center, but I don’t always get a chance to go there. And yes, Khan Academy is a very helpful website!
