Has anyone tried filing PFS online? It looks like the form has not been activated for use yet, but it says that for 2010- 2011 " the PFS Online will be available starting 11/15/2009". The phone number listed on the site is dead. Are they "out of business"?

I didn’t have any problems accessing it. Perhaps you got an old link. I did have to create a new id and password. Apparently it doesn’t carry over from year to year.

ja, are you accessing it through https://sss.ets.org/pfsNew.do? The “start a new PFS” is not clickable to me. And I tried to call Helpline: (866) 387-2601, but the number is not in use.

They changed their system this year and you have to access it through [School and Student Services by NAIS](http://sss.nais.org/). They also reduced the fee and you only have to pay one flat fee ($35 I think) no matter how many schools you apply to.

On a different note, does anyone know where I list the value of my 401(k)? I didn’t see a spot for it.

Thanks, MsHopeful. That works. For your question, I think it should go to the “IRA” field.

Whoa folks!

You do not list the current value of your IRA or 401k anywhere on the PFS (take this from someone who has done it 4 times).

You do have to list the value of the contribution you made to a non-Roth 401k (or IRA for that matter). There is a space for that. Don’t have a form available currently to tell you, however.

You do not list Roth-401k or Roth-IRA contributions because they did not affect your taxable income.

No retirement assets are used in the calculation of your EFC as you cannot be expected to be able to access them. Therefore, once in an account, the IRA/401k is invisible to the FA process (just like it will be in college).

I thought MSHopeful was asking where to list the past year contribution. Reading her post again, it looks like she’s asking about where to list the current balance on the 401k account. Sorry for the misinformation.

SSS is processing paperwork very slow this year, get your info in ASAP!

Thanks for the information. That’s probably why I didn’t see a spot to list it, since it doesn’t exist…lol. I did list the amount I contributed but didn’t see anywhere for a balance.
