Online placement testing

I recently received a postcard in the mail in regards to placement testing. Can someone please explain to me how this works online? Is there a time limit, how does this work through a computer, etc...?

Also, I would like to know how Penn State treats those who test out of certain courses. For example, if you test to be in a higher math level, do you automatically gain credit for the lower mandatory courses or do you just start at a higher level and still have to achieve the same amount of math credits?

when u go to the website, you have to take a questionaire of what type of person you are (question's about your study habits, various school related questions). Then u take the test and it has a time limit, so watch the time while u take the test. overall the testing site will tell u how to take the test. The test is overall chill. I found it to be somewhat difficult, but if u got a good sat score your fine.

Thanks for the reply! I am still unclear as to how penn state works with the credits. If you test out of a certain course do you get credit for it or do you have to make up the credits somewhere else? In other words, what is the advantage of testing extremely well?

bumppp!!!! Does anyone know how the placement policy works with credits if you test well?

The Placement Test isnt really for the higher level grades (like Calc) Its more of to determine If youll be taking something like Calc 1 or College algebra first. I believe that If you take a Test like the CLEP youll have to see how PSU's credit system works (it really should be on the site...have you looked?)

for AP credits - make sure you send the AP scores to Penn State. then they will at some point send you a letter detailing which scores counted for credits in which classes. i think you need to then send like a $20 fee to "transfer" the credits. but after that the credits will show up on your transcript just as if you took the corresponding classes at Penn State (minus the grade obviously).

hope that helps.
