online shopping

My S will be going to Dartmouth in the fall. Does anyone know where I can find Dartmouth gifts online? We're from Florida so we won't be up there until September.

Thanks!
A Proud Mom!

<a href="http://www.dartmouthcoop.com%5B/url%5D">www.dartmouthcoop.com</a></p>

<a href="http://www.ivysport.com/%5B/url%5D">http://www.ivysport.com/</a></p>

The advantage of the Dartmouthcoop is that there is no sales tax in NH. In addition, if you sign up for a membership (sign up in your child's name) he get a 20% discount off of their first purchase and 10% off all other purchases which will really benefit him if he is going to buy stuff (and he will buy stuff at the physical store in Hanover). I beleive the membership is $20 -atleast that is how much it is when you sign up on campus, and it is good for their 4 years.

Happy shopping

Thanks for the great advice. I've already placed an order!!

Great,

When he gets on campus and goes to the coop, they will already have his name in their system and he will get his discounts. He will surely want to get his 09 Jersey, and you your self will spend a lot of money picking up stuff.

One last question...are there ladies Dartmouth jackets/coats or only sweatshirts? I (mom!) am looking for something warm and green but Dad tells me to wait, they'll have a lot to buy. But I didn't see winter clothes. (?) Thanks!

I know that all of this is so exciting for you and you must be so proud -rightfully so, because it is really a great place and you are going to be so happy that you child is around so many other really great and nice kids (ok young adults)

I agree with your husband, you can hold off you should wait until you get to Hanover. The phyisical store has a much wider variety of stuff than online which probably only carries high turnover (generic)stuff on line. My daughter got a really nice sweatshirt and we purchased some really great t-shirts for family memebers when I dropped her off at school as those items were not available at the online store. There is also a selction of little kids, baby stuff Dartmouth mom/dad stuff in addition to fleeces / jackets for both men and women on main street. Trust me they are going to get your money.

Hi Sophiehorse, what part of FL are you from? My DD is a new 09 from SW Alabama, and there is another 09 from FL, Tallahassee, I think, who posts occasionally (girl). Congrats to your son.

Hi Cangel,

this is really the frist time I am having an opportunity to "chat " with ou this year. I hope that all is well. S & E are really looking forward to seeing your daughter again this spring

Sophiehorse,

Does your son have any friends who are currently attending Dartmouth. If yes, I would recommend that he ask them if he can crash in their dorm and come to Dimensions in April so that he will get an opportunity to meet with some of his prospective classmates. ED students are not invited to Dimensions because they have already committed to attend. While Dartmouth will not offset the cost of his transportation to Dimensions once they get there tey are welcomed to participate in all the activities for prospective freshmen and they will always be abl eot get meal vouchers from someone. If you search now, you may be able ot get a flight at a reasonable cost.

Cangel, That is great advice, about the Dimensions. My S has already spent a few days in the dorm and had a gret visit. He'll have to wait though until his summer visit to go up. He doesn't know anyone yet but he's super excited.

We're from Central Florida and did meet 2-3 '09s at the Holiday Luncheon. I do know now (thanks Sybbie!) that there are great choices in clothing. I was there for only a couple hours and I couln't find the store you are talking about. Now I know there is a good one. :-) Thanks for your help.

Hi Sophie,

The physical location of the Dartmouth Coop is at 21 South Main Street; right as you walk out of the "main entrance" past the Hanover Inn. If you are on the side of the hanover in, you cross the street and turn left

There is also a link for outerwear on the coop website

Hi, Sybbie, I hope you and yours had a blessed and peaceful Christmas. She is excited about going, if you guys get news of the date let us know, since the school may or may not. There is a lot happening in April here, so if she is not able to go because of school commitments (she is concerned about Science Olympiad, particularly, because that would let some friends down), we want to let you know ASAP, in case the girls would like to invite someone else. One of her tasks if she makes it in April will be to stock us up on gear!

S said they ususally get the information on the blitz as most of the freshmen are more than happy to host the prospies. Who knows what they'll cookk this time.

on a side note:

E is a chem major and wants to become a chem teacher:)

She will always have her 5 days unwashed in the woods ;)

Hi to you Sybbie! Itrs been a while since I have really been here. Hope this next quarter goes as well as the first!

Sophiehorse - for really cold weather outerwear, you are going to have to look beyond the Coop. You could probably do very well checking online - when you get information in mid-summer about the freshman outing club trips, you will probably get a list of some good gear outfitters that will sell not only hiking gear but also winter-worthy coats, boots, etc. - but if you need some suggestions I would be glad to provide them (as would many parents here or in the Parent's forum who have experience with New England winters.) Congrats to your son!

Ah, did not know about the link for outerwear on the Coop site!

Hey Ohmadre,

Hi and Happy new years to you, it has been a while since we've heard from you.

Glad that the first term went well for you also. Have you seen the growth and maturity in your child since she's gone off to NH and it seems as if they could not wait to get back. I cannot beleive that they are sooo happy and they really love being at Dartmouth.

D told me that they had a midnight snowball fight one night last week and also went sledding. I guess they are waiting for the winter fair. She says that the weather hasn't gotten brutally cold yer as she is still wearing her Northface fleece as an outercoat with a sweater and a blouse layered beneath. While she was home, we did pick up some silk thermals, because her room mate who lives in MA, told her that they really keep you warm.

There is no major "protect you from the cold" outerwear on the outer wear link. I remember that my brother wanted to know if they had any varsity type jackets (wool front, Leather sleeves) and daughter said no. I would suggest purchasing your cold weather stuff out of season when the prices go down and they are getting ready to display next season's stuff (there really is no difference from one season to the next)

We got some god buys at
<a href="http://www.rei.com%5B/url%5D">www.rei.com</a>
<a href="http://www.sierratradingpost.com%5B/url%5D">www.sierratradingpost.com</a></p>

and good old

<a href="http://www.landsend.com%5B/url%5D">www.landsend.com</a></p>

I highly recommend the extra large rolling duffel.

I would recommend against REI--maybe it's just the frugal Midwesterner in me, but I've always found their gear overpriced. Besides, layers work better anyway.

Also, I second the long underwear, particularly the pants. When its -20 degrees in early February, you can keep your top half warm with your jacket, but long undies (specifically polypros) are great to have under your jeans for extra insulation.

Happy New Year to you too Sybbie and to all on this board. And congrats to all the ED acceptees. I just think you are all in for a great experience.

"We're from Central Florida and did meet 2-3 '09s at the Holiday Luncheon. "

Your son the baseball player? I think I may have met you guys (I'm in Orlando).
