<p>why is it E? i really don’t know why</p>

<p>“by including it”</p>

<p>but can’t “when he included it” work 2?</p>

<p>since all the "otherwise"s are in the same place, you can take it out to make the snetence a bit clearer. </p>

<p>Obviously, he “had designed” is right. Then there is a parallel structure between “to accept” and “to profit”. So, E is correct.</p>

<p>I thought about this for a long time, probably wouldnt get this under time pressure.</p>
