Only 5 more days....

I am definitely going to go visit on 4/8, if I don’t get into my first choice school.

Yay! Acceptance  Checked at 1.30 AM (I live overseas, time difference is killer)- it was a good reason to wake up in the middle of the night!!

imagep - my daughter was just at Furman for All-State band clinic as well. Was your child in Senior or Clinic band? My other daughter just got a letter about being submitted for Furman Scholars scholarship money. I need to read the letter again, but I think it said if she decides to go there, she gets a certain amount of money, but this is not the musical daughter.

I was in yesterday. I was told to wait till april for any available aid. Please international student in furman, what is the average aid like? Furman happens to be my ideal college.

gluckie - senior band. The girl who sat next to him had already been accepted (early decision) and is intending on going. He plays trumpet.

My son doesn’t have a shot at any academic scholarship money, he was lucky to get in, but he could get some money for music, I read that they can do up to half of tuition. The economy has wrecked our family business so I don’t even think that a half tuition scholarship will be enough for us to afford Furman, especially when he has to opportunity to go to another college with no out-of-pocket cash from us. I hope we can work the finances out, Furman was his “reach” school and his first choice.

Furman was his first college music audition and he felt that his audition was good, but he also thinks that every time he auditioned his audition was better (less nerves)- too bad he couldn’t have auditioned at Furman last instead of first.

mommamocha -there was a separate form for the largest merit scholarships and the invites for the interview dates for these went out a couple of weeks ago. I think there is other merit aid also.

Thanks scmom. My d actually received an invitation to interview, for the Townes. We will be there on April 4th. The comment I made about aid was for the dad that did not have his child apply for the additional scholarships. I believe merit aid is still available, achiever scholarships? I am hoping my d can still get some merit aid if she does not receive the Townes. This is our first time through so my knowledge is quite limited.

I think your child is interviewing too right? Have you any clue what to expect?

I am an international student, but i wasn’t invited for any scholarship. How do i apply for the achievers scholarship now that i am desperate.

I am an international student, but i wasn’t invited for any scholarship. How do i apply for the achievers scholarship now that i am desperate.

prontoboy, the only thing you had to do to be considered for the achiever’s scholarship was check “Consider me for merit scholarships” on the common app, I believe. There were no essays or interviews for these.

not really. my child did go see the college counselor at our HS to practice interview. I just know there are several interviews. Definitely plan on reviewing the essays she wrote to apply! We will be there on the 4th as well so obviously Townes and Hollingsworth on the same day.

imagep - My daughter was in clinic (she’s a 9th grader)/clarinet. She has been going for the past 3 years and always has a great time there. Have you been on the fastweb site and done a search for musical scholarships? I apologize if someone has already covered this in earlier posts…I have not read them all.

I just re-read the letter my 11th grade daughter got re: Furman Scholars and it says she was selected…apparently the HS Guidance Counselors submit them for this. This totally surprises me since I didn’t get any warm fuzzies when we met with her. The letter states a minimum amount, but does not state an exact amount. Furman is one of her top choices for when she starts applying to colleges. It is a beautiful campus and very nice facilities.

This whole college process is fun, but seems to be a lot of work too. We’re going to Davidson and Wake Forest this weekend for visits. :)

Wake is absolutely amazing. Your daughter is going to love it. I’m going to apply as a transfer this year. Heavy application, however. Totally worth it.

Glukie, I wasn’t aware of that site but I just found it. thanks for the heads up!

Imagep - you are very welcome. Good luck!

Igoldie00 - we visited Davidson and Wake this weekend. Wake seemed to be geared toward humanitarian type goals rather than what we were looking for, but great for those interested in Political Science, art and business. Good luck to you! Everyone there seemed to love being there!!! Davidson made my daughter’s short list so far.
