Accelerated Medical Degrees - Combined and Accelerated Medical Programs

theres the site look at it

omg thank you so much!
You have no idea how long i've been looking for a website like that!
i owe you....big time

I hope 6 year programs list is up-to-date. 7 and 8 year programs list is not complete.

Curriculum Directories heres another site then i think this is more up to date than the former

yea I had seen that website before
but I kinda wanted to know what university correlated with what medical school
cause dont you have to apply through the university
and sometimes a medical school hosts many universities
thats why i like the format of the first website

so why isn't the 7 year and 8 year programs up to date? what changes have there been that you know?

I am aware of some programs in Ohio that are NOT included in the list. I do not have any info for any other states.

Hello, I live in Michigan, and i'm a junior, will be a senior after this summer. I want to get into some good colleges, and maybe even one of those BS/MD programs. As a fellow CC member could you please evaluate my chances:

Job Experience: Kumon; tutoring kids in math and reading. 12 hrs a week.

I'm looking at: U of M(possible safety?), MSU Med Scholars, Wayne State MedStart, NEOUCOM, Albany Medical College BS/MD, and St.Bonaventure BS/MD.
Are these valid expectations/attempts to be undertaken? I am especially intererested in MSU Med Scholars, but i do know that the competition is extremely high to get into these programs.

Your input would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to recommend any other colleges i should apply to.

^Forget NEOUCOM, Honey. Out of state puts you at a supreme disadvantage. You'll need to up your ACT if you want even an interview. Michigan is a match, not a safety. You have a decent shot at MedStart.

Thanks! Exactly how much should I up my ACT? Sorry, I did not mean to sound cocky when I said Michigan was a safety lol. Hmmm, MedStart, how much should I up my ACT to get an interview for MedStart, and also MSU med scholars?

indichick: Sorry for hijacking your thread, I'll make up for it.

Miami's site is confusing on the amount of time required to get a bs/md. On this page, Dual Degree Honors Programs | University of Miami , it says it is a 7 or 8 year course. On another page, Honors Programs Requirements | University of Miami , it states it as a 6 year course with a 7th year optional.

hi.m rite nw in high school and is wishing to go into the medical field....i have heard that there are pre med schools that allow walk over to the college by taking into consideration the GPA that has been maintained...here writin M-CAT is not required....in this program even the no. of years of study is reduced to 6-7 years..i have found that this program is there in SIENNA college in Albani, New York...i would like to know if this program is there in any of the colleges in Florida...if so please reply to me......

Mattc/o2011,

I believe UMiami has 2 programs (7 or 8 yrs combined). The honors program in Medicine (HPM) is applied to during senior yr of HS. If accepted, the student may choose to complete undergrad in 3 years or 4 years, before entering Med school. My son considered this program and wanted the 4 yr undergrad (8 yr combined program) because he's not interested in rushing undergrad and wants to study abroad - which is difficult to do in the accelerated programs.

UMiami also offers another combined program called Medical Scholars Program. Students apply to this program after their 1st year of undergrad at UMiami. They are selected at the end of their 2nd yr and are then eligible to start med school after completing their 3rd year of undergrad. I'm sure there are strict requirements for getting all your required courses done by the end of the 3rd year. These students need high stats coming out of HS and also high stats (3.7 GPA) at UMiami. This program seems intended for kids who don't decide on MEDICINE until after they start college.

Note: I don't think internationals are eligible for these programs (on the first link describing the programs, it says "Applicants to the Honors Program in Medicine must be US citizens or permanent residents of the United States with an alien registration receipt card in their possession at the time of application."

BUT, I'm not sure why the honors dual program is listed on the Prospective International web page (the second link you provided). The prospective international student page describes the HPME program as being 6/7 yrs, but points you to a note in the legend (#) that states "Recommended that students apply for general admission to the University by November 15 through the Early Action or Early Decision Programs. Open to U.S. citizens and residents only." So, yes it IS confusing.
