Hi, I am a future senior applying for early action for Virginia Tech, Appalachian State, NCU, University of Maryland College Park, and East Carolina University. NCU and College Park are my reach schools, while Virginia Tech and Appalachian state are the schools I have a decent chance of getting in...I think. And I doubt I will have little trouble with getting into East Carolina.

I have a un-weighted GPA of: 3.55
And Weighted of: 3.83
My SAT's: 1540 (taking them again in October, cause my mom thought it would be a one and done)
And I have been involved in multiple extracurriculars and service projects (including but not limited to the lead in musical, a member of the spaghetti dinner committee and prom committee, and volunteered to raise money for poverty stricken kids and neighborhoods.)

For most of my schools I will be applying out of state, since I am Marylander. Opinions on my chances of getting into each school??

VA Tech ED: Aim for 1250+ CR+M
Appalachian State: High match
ECU: Low match/Match
UNC-CH: High reach (you may as well be applying at Duke)
UMD: Reach (but lower than UNC-CH)

I am also applying to College Park and ECU. You seem like a good candidate for most of your schools. However, getting an SAT score above 1700 will definitely increase your chances and perhaps even pay for some of your tuition.

Keep in mind that NC schools have a state law that they can only accept 18% of outofstaters; so it’s a bit tougher for applicants like us (I’m a Virginian). ECU’s application becomes available for Class of 14’ on September 8th. I’m applying as soon as possible because I’ve been told they accept a bucketload of applicants early in the fall. With that being said, keep the dates in mind!

Applying to Maryland before the Nov 1st deadline will also give you an advantage.

I’ve got my heart set on ECU and I have a 3.5 gpa with a 1470 SAT.
