Only a junior, but I'm still unsure

Hello everyone! I'm only a Junior now and close to about half way done with the year and I certainly have a gauge on where I want to go and I'll provide you with my statistics, but from this I have two questions, if you think I can get into the schools I want, and what are some other schools recommended that I have a good chance of getting into with decent urban environment, good liberal arts and excellent engineering, and not in New York.

And I want to major in Chemical Engineering if it's a technical school or at least has a great engineering school and certainly my first choice in major, and as a secondary major would be International Relations.

GPA: 3.7? (I really don't know and this would be UW, I imagine)

PSAT: 1840 (Reading: 600 Math: 650 Critical Writing: 590) Again this is only the PSAT, and I've been taking a great SAT program, and already have gone up 160 points and nearing at 1900s now.

Extracurriculars: As a sophomore, I was treasurer of Model United Nations Club, I've won a lot of awards. Distinguished Delegate (District Conference), Distinguished Delegated (Yale MUN) Outstanding Delegate (Harvard MUN) I'm going to run for President next year, and hopefully be Secretary General of District Model United Nations

Photography Club: Member for 3 years (9th-11th)

Big Brother Big Sister Club: I volunteer helping 7th and 8th graders after school with their homework (10th-11th)

Key Club/Builders Club: (7th-9th grade) Advisor was a real pain so I stopped that

Mathletes: (7th-9th, 11th)

Math Research Club: (9th Grade) In 7th grade, won bronze medal at Hofstra University competition

Tennis Team: (9th-11th) Running for Captain Position in the Spring of 2008

Stage Crew: (9th-11th) Running for Vice President Next Year

Movies/T.V. Club: Started this club in 11th Grade and President of it (if it gets passed by the Faculty, but the Student Activities Board claims I have a good position)

Student Body: Running for President of Class in 2009

Spanish Club: (10th-11th) Running for Treasurer Next Year

National Honor Society: (8th-11th) Bronze Award in 10th Grade

Science Bowl: (11th) New York State Competition of the Rigorous Studies of Sciences

Orchestra: Running for President of Orchestra in 12th Grade
-District Music Festival (10th Grade)
-NYSSMA-(9th-11th) Level 3 Piece (Excellent), Level 4 Piece (Excellent)

Outside of School:

(8th-10th) Helped a catering business go underway and prepared fresh foods for different companies

Public Library: (9th Grade) Helped elderly people learn how to navigate the Internet, and use Microsoft Office

Au Paired for a friend: Entire Summer of 9th grade. Few weeks during 10th, 11th grade.

Volunteer Work: (11th Grade) Local Hospital for elderly people to take care, give food, and talk to.

8th Grade: Summer at Brown for course on Nanotechnology (SPARK) for 1 week, and got a nice evaluation from a renowned professor

9th Grade: Went to Japan and helped families out as well as learn the Japanese Culture for 2 weeks

10th Grade: Spent two weeks in Costa Rica helping underdeveloped children and touring the country as well

11th Grade: I'm planning to do some sort of Research Program that one of my teacher's offers for limited amounts of kids throughout most of the summer

Sorry if this is really long and some of it might be dilatory, but I wanted something comprehensive, as this is the basis for my resume at the moment, or at least it is a work in progress. Anyways, I am also Caucasian and Jewish and from New York.

The Colleges I want to apply to are in this list:
Reach Schools:

Brown
Carnegie Mellon (Liberal Arts school)
University of Virginia

Schools I have a higher chance at:
University of Massachusetts-Amherst
George Washington University
Northeastern (this is a maybe, because so many people from our school go here, and I really want to get out of this suburban fever)
UCLA (this may also be a reach, and to exacerbate, I have much less of a chance since I'm not from California)
University of Delaware
University of Maryland (I might look to applying here)

After this I've kind've been running blanks

Safety Schools:
I'm not even sure yet, and I definitely need to look into this category as well.

So again, in case you forgot if you even read all of the stuff I put, I would definitely ask for help on other safeties and schools I have a chance of getting into with the information I put, and if I'm aiming too high, as well as other things I could do (aside from getting better grades) that could be my "hook" as you might call it, or just to help in general. I thank all of you very much for taking the time to help me out, and appreciate this a lot. Happy Holidays and have a great New Year!

And sorry for the double post, but I forgot to mention that I took the World History AP last year and Sat II, both of which I was disappointed with, and this year I'm taking AP U.S. History, A.P. Literature, and A.P. 2D Design. I wanted to take A.P. Chemistry, but I'll have to wait until next year when I'm a senior(this was my parent's decision since they felt I should wait for some inane reason.) I hear it's very hard to balance two AP Science classes at one time, so unfortunately, I'll have to abstain from taking A.P. Physics next year.

Your EC's and Community Service are EXCELLENT. You're GPA could be better and your SAT's, essays and recs will decide the rest. But from what I see that you've posted here are my predictions.

Amherst-High Match
GW-Match
Northeastern-Match
UCLA-Slight Reach
U Delaware-Safety
U Maryland-Safety

You should try to aim a little higher, you can do better than some of these schools. Try for Cornell or Duke.

Swarthmore and JHU might be good reaches.

You don't seem to have a 'defined passion.'

wpi,rpi,urochester

Yeah, I agree with movie freak. Although you show alot of dedicaton, you fail to show a single passion. Collleges don't want a "laundry list" of EC's and activities. If you plan on majoring in engineering, I see barely anything on here relating to that.

My thoughts exactly. Thank you soccerstar18.

When I look at your stats, all I see are activities. If I was an adcom, I would ask myself if this student has passion. Right now, I don't.

Lehigh would be a nice choice for engineering

First and foremost, I really appreciate all of you for getting back at me so quickly. Well, I figure that the Research Program I am trying to get into this summer will help me for Engineering, and my definite passion is certainly Chemical Engineering without a doubt, if not I can certainly express it through an interview, if an essay comes to that, or in any way. The program I did on Nanotechnology, albeit in 8th grade, certainly helps as well. I'm not sure I can really put it out any other way other than the fact that Chemical Engineering and to be even more specific Nanotechnology have been such great passions of mine for 4 years now. However I feel it is a regret that I didn't join Science Research in our school for various reasons. And thank you all for the other ideas, however I still doubt that I'm going to apply anywhere in New York, except for maybe one school. Thank you all, and I'd love to see more ideas. Happy Holidays!

Bump, and I hope all of you are having a great New Year so far!
