I got my scholarship letter in the mail today, and I was hoping on at least getting the Academic Distinction scholarship, but I got the achievement one.
Another note - I'm an early graduate (graduating 1 year early..only in 3rd year of high school). Here are my stats:

Rank: 24/700
Unweighted GPA: 3.8/4.0
Weighted GPA: 4.75
SAT: 1360 math and critical reading (730 math, 630 reading), 2050 with writing
Extracurriculars: President of Mu Alpha Theta & Co-President and Co-Founder of Science Natl Honor Society, member of NHS, Art Natl Honor Society, Student Council, Key Club
Awards: Various awards for Latin competitions at area, state, and nationals
AP Exams (only took 3 so far, since I was a Sophomore last year): Spanish - 5, Latin - 5, AP World Hist - 4 (AP Scholar)
Volunteer Hours: 250+
Current course load: All AP - (Calc AB and BC, Physics B, Chem, English 3 and 4)
2011 PSAT score: 203.

I feel like my SAT score was not good enough, but I am still a little disappointed I only got 3k a semester :/ Do you guys think that I probably was not eligible for the Academic Distinction scholarship?

I applied at the end of November, but I also have December SAT scores that have not come in yet. And according to last year's cutoffs for the state of Texas, I am Commended... I think I might send in a copy of this year's PSAT scores when I send in the Dec 2011 SAT scores. Hopefully the December SAT scores might be higher so I can submit those and ask for a reevaluation for the AES scholarship.

I think it was your sat score. You should ask once you get your new score in. I know that people can get bumped up at the end of the semester or year.

I guess it was my SAT score. My December SAT score bumped my SAT superscore to 1430. I sent in my new score and asked UTD’s Scholarship Committee to reevaluate my application again. After reevaluating it, they awarded me with full tuition + 1k a semester :)

I think she would definitely get the full tuition plus 3-4K a semester. My son’s OOS with similar stats (800, 790, 730 SAT I; 4/84 W, 4.0 UW) and he got this. It does not hurt to be OOS.

I assume your D is a junior. I would encourage you to have her apply for the McDermott Scholars Program. It’s an incredible opportunity for the right person. Check out their website.

My daughter is a Senior. She got wait listed at her dream schools so we had to open the search back up, and we were interested in UT Dallas because it is one of the better schools with late admissions.

bigredddawgie, we’d like to think so, but it’s hard to be too optimistic when historically the schools are taking 5% or so of the wait list applicants.

VADAD1, have her apply to UTD if she hasn’t done it already. Is she national merit? They offer great deals for finalists, too. Yes, I’d say UTD continues to be a sort of “hidden gem”. If you look at average SAT scores, it’s as high or higher than UT Austin and it gives a lot more scholarships.

She’s already applied, we are just waiting to hear back from them. She missed National Merit SF by 1 point. She scored a 219 and the cutoff in VA was 220 this year, so that was a bummer.
