Only have 1 good EC

I never really took an active role in my school or the community, and I never really joined any clubs or sports teams or whatever during school. The only actual EC that I've done is Model UN, and that was only for one year. I also volunteered at my local library and hospital before for about 140 hours total, but I don't think that would carry as much weight. My GPA is a mere 3.5, with 5 AP classes (including the ones this year) and a 2010 SAT. I have a 740 Math II and 630 chemistry.

But to get to the point, what really matters for me right now is EC's. I have one other EC that I started in middle school and continued on through high school, but will that be enough to get me into a good college?

My local state university is getting more and more competitive each year, about 40% acceptance rate right now. Will I be able to get in in-state?

I'm really worried because my GPA isn't that high, my SAT is mediocre, my course rigor is average, my subjects aren't that great, and my EC list is short and only shines in one area, and it's' really not even that impressive anyway. Will I be rejected from most of the colleges? (which are pretty competitive, engineering schools like CMU, RPI, WPI)

How about my local state university?

To know your chances at your local state university, we kinda have to know the state you are in.

Connecticut, and state university is UConn

I think easy in tbh but I’m not familiar with UConn

My state (NC) has to accept people and meet an in-state quota, and it’s even relatively easy to get into UNC which has an 18% acceptance rate outside of the state, you honestly should be fine for UCONN, and can do better, trust me.

Well… a 2010 is good enough for in-state Berkeley… so it’s far from a “mediocre” score. You’ll want to talk to your counselors about the average GPA for the schools you are interested in. But state schools place far more emphasis on stats over ECs so you’re good at least for those.

Yeah you’re in. I’m pretty sure that UCONN’s acceptance rate is 50% not 40%. It also looks like you’ll get half tuition too.

You’ll have absolutely no problem getting into UConn. I’ve seen kids from the public high school getting 1800’s and going there.

A 3.5 unweighted is a very good GPA, and it seems that you have taken a rigorous course load. CMU would probably be a reach as of now, unless you can bump the SAT score up by 150-200 points as well as your SAT II’s.
