Only Ivy Grads, no MIT, Stanfords considered

It seems there are plenty of ivy haters on this site who like to “divide and conquer” the vaunted ivy league, to create falsehoods as if only certain schools are ivy, as if Cornell or Brown are not worthy and no as respected as other non-ivy schools when it comes to getting jobs. Some are obtuse enough to question their legitimacy or even question whether they are still needed—as if it is only a sports conference. Some even feel they conspired to bring down the economic system…
Anyway, this listing shows that graduating from an ivy still matters. It looks like only grads from the Ancient 8 have a chance with this firm, which dispels the notion that other schools offer the same access. This ad puts this belief to rest.

Ivy League Graduate - ASAP

The idea of a company only considering candidates who graduated from the ivies is about as silly as prospective students only applying to the ivies, as if no other schools or candidates are worth considering. This reminds me of the ads I used to see in the Crimson looking for sperm donors, only Harvard students need apply. (My S is an ivy grad and I don’t think any of his cohort needed to look for jobs on craigslist.)

My theory is that they did this to discourage people with no college degree at all from applying.

Obvious ■■■■■!

Well, the link appears to be real, so it’s the craigslist poster (same as this poster?) who’s a ■■■■■. $30 an hour, ivy league, short term contract, no job description. I’m not going to the ivies to get a $30 / hour short term contract.

You can barely get any college grad for $30/hour with 3 years experience. What a loser company! Definitely does not show the value of an Ivy education.

Has to be tongue-in-cheek. Good for a giggle.

Pshaw, that’s nothing.

[Internship at a Chinese Bank? Only If You Go to Harvard or MIT - James Fallows - International - The Atlantic](<a href=“Internship at a Chinese Bank? Only If You Go to Harvard or MIT - The Atlantic”>Internship at a Chinese Bank? Only If You Go to Harvard or MIT - The Atlantic)

Because clearly craigslist is where the most elite firms recruit. And it’s in Jersey City. Maybe if it was in Manhattan or Boston or even Samford. But even then I would probably still be laughing.

And Chinese corporations are pretty sketch. In terms of consulting, banking, and even computer science, top firms like BCG, McKinsey, Bain, Goldman, Credit Suisse, JP Morgan, Googles and Microsoft don’t just have individuals from ivy leagues. Shocking, isn’t it?

And I agree that’s a rip off on the compensation. I can get more from a summer internship.

ha ha ha

I hope this is tongue-in-cheek. My son makes that working part time while still in (non-Ivy) college. (software engineering/cs)

This ad is ridiculous, really. No needs to say why. Next they will be hiring people based on blood tests.

for “Ivies only” better money to be made in other ways . . .

Sent that to son when he was an undergrad; he ignored. (There were always ads in the Crimson.) Easy for him; he wasn’t writing the checks.

Here’s another listing for ivy grads only. This is a large prestigious law firm…

[Recent Ivy League Graduate](http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/lgl/2292014039.html)

Major law firm in Newark, New Jersey seeks a recent Ivy League graduate for an entry-level paralegal position.

Ideal candidate should have at least 1-2years experience in a law firm and/or major corporation.

Candidate should be computer savvy, well spoken, and have the ability to multi-task.

The salary is 85,000 per year- non-negotiable.

O.T. work is a MUST!

If you are interested, or know anyone who might be, please email your resume in word format and include “Recent Graduate” in the subject heading.

my prestige rankings:

harvard

mit

yale/princeton

stanford

cal tech

cornell/brown/dartmouth/penn

You’re joking, right? First that ad is Craigslist and second the salary is $35,000 a year, NOT $85,000 a year.

Again, I can get double that money in a summer internship. I am laughing at how silly your example is.

Yep, you’re right.

Ad: “The salary is 35,000 per year- non-negotiable.”

OP: “The salary is 85,000 per year- non-negotiable.”

And clearly, since they say on Craigslist that they’re a major firm, they must be a large and prestigious firm. I mean, who else would use Craigslist to hire an Ivy League graduate for $35k/year?

I feel “Ivy League” encompasses a series of prestigious schools. Not necessarily THE Ivy League. I mean are employers really going to differentiate a degree from Dartmouth and Caltech? Harvard from Stanford? UPenn from Duke?

This craiglist thing is terrible…I wouldn’t be surprised if someone just put it up there as a joke to prove a stupid point on CC.
