ONLY ONE DAY LEFT~ BC or Wake Forest?

So at the start of April I was debating between Cornell, Wake, and Boston College. Now having visited all three I was able to knock Cornell off the list (too big, didnt feel right, students didnt seem like my type of people). So my debate has been between BC and Wake. I seem to switch my preference daily.

Hoping you all can help me decide whats best for me. Here is some more info that plays into the decision:

-Business major, looking at going into finance and hopefully a big NY bank, but that may change. (will almost definitely stay with business though)

-Accepted to BC Business honors program (only 30ish students - top 5% of applicants)

-Visited both and liked both campuses. When I was at Wake it just felt perfect but i also enjoyed BC. Not sure if these judgments are accurate though, because I visited BC in my pre-application buzz, and Wake after I knew where I’d been accepted (different mindset).

-Unsure about climate at both schools: Worried Wake will be too hot and humid in spring months, but more fretting about hikes to class in Boston’s snow (and BCs hills).

-Love to ski (Boston), but family has a beach house in SC (near Wake)

-Wake is 5.5 hours from home (seems ideal- reasonable drive for a weekend), BC is 8 hours from home (a little far…)

-Both ACC schools with great sports (this helped knock Cornell off)

-Wake is 4500 students (maybe too much like high school?)

-BC Freshmen living is on 2 campuses (so you are either taking buses all the time or separated from half of your class)

-Wake social scene is heavily frat based (not sure if i like or hate this… maybe I’d love being in a frat, or maybe it makes for a clichy and exclusive enviornment- i dunno…)

-BC has endless possibilities with Boston right there. Wake has Winston-Salem, where i could maintain my Marriott employment (5 mins away) and I loved the southern culture when i visited.

-Both Business schools are ranked top 20ish, and both universities are ranked around 30 (for the little bit that this matters)

-Similar job placement after graduation (BC is slightly better for big NY banks but i think i can get to them from either route… maybe im mistaken?)

-I dont qualify for any need based aid, and niether school offered any merit based aid, so my family will be footing the $46k in its entirity at either school.

-For what its worth, I have many friends going to southern schools, particularly UVA and Vtech, which are both just a few hours from Wake.

Those are all of points i can think of. It basically comes down to my gut which says Wake (but maybe falsely because I didnt see BC in the “i actually might spend 4 years of my life here” mindset) and brain which says BC…

PLEASE HELP - only one day left before my deposit has to be in the mail!!!

from my perspective when i toured bc twice, it had a very unique feel to it. I am choosing BC over northwestern in chicago because of its "feels right" appeal. Also, BC's carroll school is very prestigious (#14?) See the Boston College vs. Northwestern tread that i started for more comments on the business program. I will be in the Carroll school as well, although no honors program. If you are looking to work in NYC, i would strongly suggest BC because many NY banks come to BC to interview. you will have more opportunity to work in NYC if you go to school in boston vs. north carolina.
BC has better sports...football, basketball, hockey
wake's sports are ok, but football probably wont be good again for awhile and basketball had an off year.
in terms of weather...i was in boston last weekend. it was 85 degrees and sunny. the winters can get cold, but it warms up pretty fast.

If your gut tells you Wake, then go there. I had a similar decision to make. My gut told me BC, while my brain told me to go to northwestern. I am going with my gut. Just have the comfort that you will end up just fine at either place. Thats what i've been trying to tell myself. Good luck with your decision! Maybe ill see you in the fall :)

I recommend Wake Forest.

I recommend BC 4 sure - the honors program is excellent. And you'll have waaay more fun than at Wake Forest.

can someone please explain the honors program to me?

Wake Forest.
I had the same choice last year, I picked BC and the Carroll school. I've been quite dissappointed with it actually.

Boston College Hands Down.

I picked BC over Wake and I will be in the carroll school next year. Major factor=Boston!!! I couldn't see myself spending 4 years in Winston Salem. I think opportunity wise BC has the upper hand and Honors is awesome!!!

caddyshack why were you disappointed? the only negative things about BC i've heard about have been from ckmets.

Caddyshack - please expand, you are the only reply that says you are flatout unhappy with BC and Carrol specifically...(PM me if youd rather)

mnwinwin- I should go to BC because ill have waaay more fun at wake forest??? probably just a typo but im curious to clear that up.

If anyone else is willing to expand on their responce i would REALLY appreciate it. Almost everyon on CC is telling me BC while everyont in my personal life is saying Wake...

he said you would have more funat bc THAN at wake forest.

Definately Wake.

I would say BC for sure

so what was your decision?

BC was my final decision. Being in the honors program at BC brought the academic setting to the same level as Wake (in my mind), and when all was said and done the proximity to Boston swung me. Also the 'work forest' reputation doesn’t really appeal to me- just seems like unnecessary pressure and difficulty. I spent my 4 years of high school studying my brains out, I want to have more fun in college and I think BC is more apt to provide that for me.

Thank you all for your advice, it was really helpful!

I didn't want to say anything because it really needs to be your decision....but you will not regret the one you made to attend BC. My son also had to decide between Wake and BC and he chose BC. He has had a fabulous first year and is a student in CSOM. You have only great things to look forward to! Congratulations!

i wouldve gone to Wake if I were you..although the food there is absolutely terrible

ReadyToBeDone, while I would have liked to have seen you become a Demon Deacon, it seems like you made a logical decision in going to BC. Many, like yourself, view the 'Work Forest' reputation as unnecessary pressure and difficulty. Personally, I view it as better prepapation for life outside of college in terms of work ethic. Both Wake and BC have prestigous business schools, and I would agree that for you BC gets the slight edge over Wake for two reasons: getting accepted to the Honors Program, and having a close proximity to Boston (thus having more I-banking recruiters come to BC). Good luck at BC, ReadyToBeDone. Just by looking at your in-depth comparison of the two schools, it seems like you are a good decision maker and that you will succeed in whatever you put your mind to.

Also, I wanted to clear up some of the asinine remarks on this thread...
"I recommend BC 4 sure - the honors program is excellent. And you'll have waaay more fun than at Wake Forest."
-Oh really, what makes you say that you'll have more fun? I would agree that the proximity to Boston provides opportunities to have fun, but assuming this means BC is "waaay" more fun that Wake is superficial. Wake has some of the highest percentages of its students play intramurals (over 95% of males and 60% of females). Also, roughly half of Wake students join frats/sororities. Wake is certainly not an "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" type of school... we know how to throw a good party, and we let loose on the weekend. While not Boston, Winston-Salem also provides opportunities for students to have fun.

This comment just makes me chuckle:
"BC has better sports...football, basketball, hockey
wake's sports are ok, but football probably wont be good again for awhile and basketball had an off year."
-OK, I'll give you hockey. But football? Yeah, good call... the ACC champs won't be good again for awhile. Good analysis there Herbstreit (rolls eyes)...

With regards to the "absolutely terrible" food...

Wake students are on meal plans, and these meal plans are only valid at one location... The Pit. The Pit serves good food; however, it gets a bad rep because it is the only location that accepts the meal plans, and as a result students grow tired of the Pit. Wake has other food options, such as Chick-Fil-A and Subway. I can see the day when these food locations become part of the meal plan, as student discontent grows with the limited food options through the meal plan.
