I submitted my early decision application to Dartmouth back in October, but I ended up only submitting 1 subject test in math (750) because I didn’t want to send in the other subject test for chem (680). I’m really worried that this will impact my application. Even though I know it won’t be the determining factor on whether I get accepted or not, I still feel like the admissions committee is going to be suspicious of why I only submitted 1 when they clearly recommend 2 tests. I really tried my best to study for these tests, even though I hoped to get at least a 700 in chem. Will I still be in a decent spot to seek admission?
You’ll find out the answer in a month (although you will never know what impact, if any the Subject Tests had).Your application is submitted. You can’t do anything about it. None of us works for Dartmouth admissions. So I’m unclear what answer you are expecting from us.
Relax as best you can. Continue working on your RD applications. Enjoy Thanksgiving. That’s my advice to you. Good luck.
Thank you
Well, I’ve seen someone get into Stanford SCEA with 770mII and 610 physics. Matter fact, 680 in chem wouldn’t have hurt tbh.
@Bishoptoaster – Whether you get it or not will almost certainly be because of the totality of your application, recs, numbers, etc. If they wanted to fill a class full of just 36 ACT, 800 Subject matter SATs, they probably could. But they are building a community. They want athletes, artists, science kids, mathematicians, socially-minded kids, etc. If you get in (or get rejected), rest assured it won’t have anything to do with the absence of a second subject matter test. Good luck!
Thank you to everyone!
For those that are wondering, I ended up being deferred from Dartmouth. Looks like you really do need to submit two subject tests to make the cut…
Update as of 4/1/19:
After being deferred from Dartmouth ED, I was ultimately rejected even after sending in a very strong LOCI and additional updates. I am extremely happy that Dartmouth rejected me, as I ended up being accepted into Cornell University and the University of Notre Dame. Getting an acceptance to Dartmouth would’ve made the situation harder than it already is. I thought that Dartmouth was THE school for me throughout all of 2018. I fell in love when I visited and I had no other schools I wanted to attend other than Dartmouth by the time I applied ED. Now, I do not feel that same affection I did 5-6 months ago. This is not because I was rejected or denied, but rather because I found other schools that made me feel like I had a better fit for me. I am extremely happy that Dartmouth gave me an ultimate decision that was meant to be.
@Bishoptoaster I’m tagging this as another example of ED regret. (But with a happy ending.) Congrats on Cornell and ND.
Seems like no rhyme of reason to decisions sometimes (my D rejected from Cornell where she is legacy but accepted to Dartmouth). This is a time to practice the mantra - All for the best. Congrats on Cornell and UND. Cornell has a multitude of opportunities - although very different from Dartmouth (4x the size). Ithaca’s surroundings are amazing and Ithaca is an excellent town.
