only "take" highest score

ok...so i know colleges say they only take your highest score...but...is this really true?...i mean...if i were a person making decisions...and I see 3 sets of scores...it would be really hard for me to only "take" the highest score(lets say...2200)....and neglect the fact that if you add up all the lowest scores you get a 1850. The only way I can imagine that they truly only take your highest score would be if your scores go through a computer that reprints only your highest scores on sort of an applicant profile, where your bad scores don't show. Can someone let me know the truth behind when colleges say they are only "taking" your highest score. Since its not like college admissions just put numbers into a computer and it says reject or admit, if you know what i'm saying, its a holistic process...supposedly...so doesn't that mean bad scores will make your holistic impression as an applicant look worse? common collegeconfidentialers...please enlighten me...

Also...does it matter if you take the SAT for a 4th time?

I think it's true. Somebody over the Cornell ED got accepted and that person admitted he took it 3 times.
