Hey, I've been reading cc.com for a while now and I must say, it's been the source of lots of stress and panic seeing all these overly qualified users posting their stats. But someone pointed out to me that perhaps only the "best of the best" go on these forums, creating an overly-exaggerated sense of difficulty towards the admissions process (although I know this is still a lot more realistic that what the avg. high schooler thinks). Would you guys agree? Do only the most motivated people come here and talk about their national championships, awards, research accomplishments, etc, or are most of the applicants/acceptees really like this?

Well you won't see a 62%, 2.7 gpa student posting on these boards about their chances if that's what you're inferring. Generally such stats reflect that the student that don't care about their education or academic success. I that vein I suppose they wont look for internet forums to plan their college education or think that they have a shot at an ivy league. Those that care and think/hope to have a shot will likely have the stats to back up their interests.

However I know that there are posters do end up getting rejected by the schools on whose board theyve been posting for over a year so I wouldnt go as far as saying that all posters around here are shoe-ins and cremes and certain to get picked. They just have the stats to reflect their involvement.

At least thats my take on it.

no not really, because people do get rejected on here. People may exaggerate a little, but probably not too much

well there are actually a few ppl here who have pretty bad stats yet post regularly without telling anyone what their stats are or posting a chances thread...i won't name any names.

keep in mind that those who post those chances threads with the crazy stats are usually REALLY full of themselves and simply do it to show off which then in turn deters the people who represent 80% of the accepted students to not post their stats. Also, think about it, the people who seem like they are really full of themselves here are probably pretty annoying in real life and their arrogance might show in their essay etc .....don't get discouraged by the d-bags on this site.

Haha thanks Shraf, I've actually never thought of it that way (that the crazy chance threads deter others from posting). And yes, I have seen really, really qualified users get rejected, which only added to the panic. However, in one last attempt at denial, I was just wondering if nearly every single applicant was that insanely qualified.

Yes, I can proudly say that CC has some very knowledgable and Frank people that will give you helpful advice in getting and thriving through College.

But then you have the High-schoolers who think they know it all and tellls someone with beatiful stats that they have no shot. None what so ever. I mean these same people are the ones trying to get into college themselvs yet they have the audacity to try and chance people like their already got their high way ready.

It makes CC an intimidating place. It laso has a lot of envious people that will tell you that your stats are extremely bad when in reality they're not. This is why I never post my stats because in all honesty, I really don't need anyone being my Psychic and prediciting my chances; be it through stats or essays. I have my trustworthy English teacher for that.

So yeah, there you have it. Thats how I feel about CC
