Only way in...

Ok now that i have finished looking over the admissions data (who got in etc.) for harvard, yale, etc. i just realized something. Without a hook (as in passion) i have no chance. People with 2300's and 4.0s were/are getting rejected/defered left and right. Academics alone are not enough. Break the mold, its your only chance. Without a unique/interesting hook, i have no chance. I mean does a 2100 top 10% asian male have any shot at HYPMS without the twist? For all juniors (like me) and any sophmore that may have wandered onto CC, get a hook now. Even with absolutely perfect stats, you have no guarentee at entry. I am going to do my best in school etc, but i will also try to do something unique-not the same stuff. So if you are a 2300, 4.0, asian val, who rocks at science and math with some violin on the side, good luck. the admissions game is changing. they dont want people like that anymore (well they do, but they have a bunch of people like that-its supply and demand) 5-10 years ago, those stats would have been phenomenal, but todays schools are looking for something more.

Get unique or get lucky.

do something you love and are passionate about. it will make your high school experience more valuable and more fun. you might not get into HYPMS. life goes on. you will probably still have a good college experience, especially if you learn earlier on that life isn't just about looking good on paper or beating other people.

see, its convenient to do something you like/are passionate about. Your passion is probobly your only chance at getting in, and even if you dont get in, at least you had fun with your passion. I like running. Even if it doesnt get me into HYPMS, at least i had fun doing it.

There are also other schools beyond "HYPMS". So in addition to doing what turns you on, start looking for schools that get turned on by what you are doing. Just a thought.
