Ontario University System

In general, how are the schools? Specifically, I’m looking for info about Carleton, McMaster, Ottawa, Queens, Toronto, and Western. Thoughts, opinions, interesting facts, or the like?

Toronto's # 1. Queens, McMaster or Ottawa, and Carleton next on the list respectively. Western sucks. I live near Western and am taking their WISE Program. It sucks bad.

What about Richard Ivey?

My dad did his masters in E.E. at Carleton and from my understanding, received a great education from there. He went on to work at Bell Northern Research before coming to the U.S.

Richard Ivey's alright. It'd be better if it didn't have such a lackadaisical admissions process where college dumba**es get through. I mean, a kid I know with no experience in business (no projects, no theory) like a sciencey kid, gets this admissions guarentee to Ivey in two years merely because he attended UCC. You're talking pure booksmarts here. If this ain't corruption, I dunno what is...

a helpful forum like this one that's specific to canadian schools more than US schools is http://forums.studentawards.com where current and prospective students share info.

Richard Ivey is awesome =)

The AEO (preaccpetance) is actually pretty tough to get and pretty tough to keep. You need a 90%+ (A+) average in highschool, mix of extracurriculars, internatioanl experience, work expierence etc.

And for the 2 years before Ivey you need to maintain acceptance ECs and maintain a 80% (A) average. 80% in university isn't all that easy :)

Just booksmarts will get you into Schulich but not Ivey.

thats true.. but getting into schulich isnt that easy either.. u need around 90% in high school...

uh.. I don't think so.. Queen's is no where near McMaster, Carleton and Ottawa.. Here's my list:
1. Queen's and Waterloo
2. University of Toronto
3. Ottawa
and then everything else after is pretty much on the same level

no man, lucyS
1.Toronto
2.Western
3.Queen's
4.Waterloo

.

Toronto is usually considered number 1. Next its Queens, followed by Western. Carleton is the armpit of Canada. I think its ranked after York which is not something to be proud of.

Toronto is not always considered #1. Its graduate schools pull up its undergrad... it all depends on your preferences. If you don't want to be a number at a commuter school, don't go to UofT...

I'd put my money on Queens in a flash... Waterloo for math/engineering

to jthecanadian: UCC students may get preferential treatment for the very reason that they posses more than booksmarts. That said, I would say pure talent is the most important factor in deciding admissions. You don't need business experience; that's why you're going to undergrad biz school.
