Oops, I slipped in freshman year

Yea, so I decided to take four humanity type classes (Composition, Philosophy, History, and Music App) and University Physics during this fall semester of my freshman year in college. However, for reasons including partly myself i slipped up and i made some pretty horrible grades this semester. Philosophy probably will be a B, Music App will be an A, University Physics will be an A (and lab), History and composition tho...EEEKK probably a C or lower sadly...I got really sick over the last 2 weeks and rarely attended those classes bringing that already pretty sad grades even lower...im thinking probably C or maybe a D in Composition because i did not do 2 of the major essays.

I was just wondering what I should do, and how bad this will effect my Medical School looks. I know GPA seems to be a key factor in getting in to a medical school, and mine is looking under 3.0 this semester. I have Calculus II, Bio II, CHem I + politics next semester...so taht shud be straight A's (im math/science minded) but even if i retake Composition...Dont they just average out?
