So I understand OOS admission is extremely competitive, but does UNC emphasize more on the person rather than test scores? I remember recently reading the average SAT score is about a 1320 or so (w/o athletes i'd assume ~1340). I can imagine a lot of extremely qualified people apply (such as with the case for UVA), but does UNC truly care more about rec's, ECs and emphasis on grades over SAT? Thanks in advance.

UNC does use a holistic approach to admissions. That said, most OOS applicants tend to look like candidates to most highly select privates and Ivies.

SAT scores, GPA, and class rank are the three top admission criteria but your essays are very important in the UNC process and should not be taken lightly. ** Repeat, focus on your essays.**

UNC is much more selective than UVA for OOS admissions due to the 18% cap on OOS students whereas UVA is at +/- 30% OOS.

Good luck!
