Mid west mom she thinks she does want to rush. It happens as a frosh in the fall? Can you explain the process at UT?

Yes, it happens in the fall. If you go to the greeklife website, you can get information (it may not be updated for 2009 yet, but you can get an idea from 2008 information). There is also information about the various houses at UT.

If you need information about rush, feel free to pm me, I've been writing rec's for UT girls for years, I'd be happy to give you some info., and I can direct you to websites that will be helpful to her.

Longhorn 007, My s has OK stats (33 ACT and 3.9+ GPA) good business focused ec's and is in top 7-9%.

OOS admitted on 2/23
ACT 26
SAT 1800
GPA- 93
Large public specialized high school -NYC
Does not rank-probably-top 5-10%
Very fortunate to be accepted with (relatively) low test scores. Visited the school last year, expressed interest and followed up with letters. Only other schools under serious consideration are Wisconsin and Minnesota but leaning strongly towards Texas.

There is hope for the "average" student.

Congrats teebill152! That's great :)
When did you submit your application?

teebill152, same GPA for me 90/100 , but a higher SAT score ... u r giving me hope ...

Congratulations, teebill152, Didn't you say your D had an 1870, though?

First- she applied and sent everything in before the December 1 deadline.( If I recall correctly she had to have everything in by 12/1 in order to be considered for a scholarship-which we have not yet received the status of) Many issues with Texas not recognizing the form of transcript submitted from OOS but eventually everything was accepted. Her SAT score in one sitting was 1800- superscored it was higher BUT I don't think Texas looked at the superscore. Her ACT scores in Math and English were in the 29 range-science took her down BUT I am now told Texas does not look at the science score.

All told- I thought that she was a long shot for Texas (although her guidance counselor thought that she had a better chance at Texas than at Wisconsin-where she was postponed) and she is thrilled to have this opportunity.

I posted her information so that other CC readers are made aware that there are some students who have been admitted that do not have the typical very high test scores but whose overall application combined with expressed interest and follow up managed to make it through the process.

Congrats Teebill!! - you are right in that Texas does not superscore.

anyone hear from OOS? anyone know when we should start hearing? i hear towards the end of the week we should all know..

wil international students also hear at that time only ?

Still waiting here... I've been accepted to my #1 school, but admission to UT would be a confidence boost. I have the stats based on the OOS profile that UT lists, but posters here set much higher standards.

Heard from UT today...applied early from NY

Get in????

Kewlioto did you get in???

if kewlito didnt get in....then competition for OOS is pretty tough...although i really wanna know what his decision was since his sat score was really good...but his rank wasnt top 10%...

still no one from OOS?

Nope, and I'm kind of starting to worry. I have a good GPA (3.94/4.16, now 3.96/4.23) and decent test scores (2080, 720 M 630 CR 730 W) but I still haven't heard for Chemical Engineering. I recall seeing somewhere on the website that because it is such a competitive major, they review all of the applications after the deadline only and reach decisions after that. Has anyone seen something similar or can they verify that last bit?

my daughter heard three weeks ago from California. Her gpa was wighted 3.6. Act 27. goood extra curricular. We were surprised she got into the school of comm. We are thriled and visiting in two weeks. She is deciding between ut and u maryland. Good luck to those waiting.

By the way, a friends daughter also heard with lower grades. She was defered at Indiana, but got in to texas. Go figure.

the only OOS people that i know that have heard are the ones with insane stats (i.e 34 ACT, 2300 SAT) and the ones that have applied to school of commuication and other school like that...im guessing natural sciences, liberal arts, business, and engineering are the most popular...so you're gonna need great stats

i should have applied to school of communication..haha no offense to anyone that got in but i guess not many people apply there
