@Hermit9 or anyone else. Can you tell me where you either found a link to the OOS admission rate or where you heard the acceptance rate of 10% for OOS? When we visited Rick Clark stated that 50% where from Georgia, 10% international, and 40% OOS. So, it is hard to understand how there could be only a 10% admission rate OOS. Personally, I believe that GTech should first and foremost serve the people of Georgia who support it with their tax dollars, but I also know They need OOS tuition dollars, and want geographical diversity. Son is OOS white male so interested to know of any exact overall data. He has an ACT of 34, and a W GPA of 4.25 with 7 APs, and is a a Senior 3rd degree black belt who has been a Taekwondo instructor for 2 years, as well as band for 7 years, math tutor, math team member with numerous awards. So, he is qualified but still might not make the cut, if OOS is only 10%.
I think the 10% figure comes from doing some math if state schools are required to admit 60% of in-state students. However, I’ve looked at a lot of statistics and it’s more similar to what you’re posting. Georgia Tech has been getting considerably harder to get into incredibly quickly. Last year, ~40% of attendees were IS, ~35% were OOS, and ~15% INT. However, this reflects attendance, not acceptance. All I can say assuredly is that admission % will hover right around–or just under–30% this year. I’d expect admission % for OOS to be at or slightly under that. Supposing 60% of IS are admitted, then only about 10% of OOS would be, too. However, I find it very unlikely that IS students would be considerably more likely not to attend than OOS students. So yeah, I’d say 1/3 or 1/4 OOS will get in.
However, I have perused a number of threads over the past few years here on CC and I can only recall two students denied with a 34 ACT (or SAT equivalent). I wouldn’t worry about it too much, your son has great ECs and grades, too!
@hermit9 Thanks for the information. I appreciate it!
You’re welcome! I’m sorry that I couldn’t find any explicit data to answer, though.
“Tech held strong in Georgia, receiving 16 percent more applications from in-state students and admitting approximately 39 percent, compared with 36 percent out-of-state and 14 percent international.”
Straight from the horse’s mouth:

Expect that number to be below 30 percent this year given the increased size of the EA applicant pool.
