OOS Applicant to UVa

<p>I was wondering what my chances are of getting into UVa as an unhooked, OOS student. I absolutely love the school and the campus, but I'm not sure if I will make it in. (In case it is of any relevance, I am a male, I am from Ohio, and my high school is private.)</p>

<p>Here is my abridged résumé...</p>

<p>Academics:
-Unweighted GPA - 4.00
-Class Rank - 2
-Haven taken 8 AP classes over the course of my Junior and Senior years</p>

<p>Test Scores:
-ACT: Composite - 30, English - 34, Math - 30, Reading - 30, Science - 29
-SAT: Composite - 2000, Math - 630, Critical Reading - 650, Writing - 720
-Retook the SAT earlier this month (likely got a Math score in the high 600s or low 700s)
-Am retaking the ACT at the end of this month (likely to get a higher Composite)
-Am taking two SAT Subject Tests next month (Math I and U.S. History)</p>

<p>Other Accomplishments:
-National Merit Commended Student
-600+ Hours of Community Service
-Secretary of National Honor Society
-President of Key Club
-President of Big Brothers (mentoring organization)
-Hold and have held multiple other leadership positions
-Highly involved in my school's Drama program and Vocal Ensemble</p>

<p>Your ACT is slightly better than your SAT, but they’re not very different from each other. They are both unexceptional for OOS applicants, neither unusually strong nor unusually weak.</p>

<p>UW GPA and class rank (Salutatorian?) are great. ECs look solid.</p>

<p>I would estimate your current chances around 50-50. Improving by even a single point on ACT composite could make a big difference in your case. It’s really difficult for OOS.</p>
