OOS - Applying for Mizzou Scholarships

It looks like all the inhouse scholarships that you would apply for using the scholarship application do not apply to those OOS. The Mark Twain is automatic, so you don't need to fill this out to get it. The others all seem like they are for in-state or under represented minority.

Should my daughter fill it out anyway? Did anyone out of state get a scholarship that wasn't listed on the list? I hate to waste the time if it's pointless.

Automatic Departmental Scholarships and Awards

The MU College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources offers automatic scholarships and the MU College of Engineering offers automatic awards to entering freshmen. For details on the selection criteria go the scholarship websites for the colleges at:

The rest were all transfer or international.

OOS J-school’s student got without application:

Mark Twain and John & Virginia Sutherland scholarships

With two separate applications: Glenn H. Doughty and Alumni Assn Endowment scholarships

The Alumni Association has a scholarship program: [Mizzou.com - Incoming Student Scholarship](http://www.mizzou.com/s/1002/index.aspx?sid=1002&gid=1&pgid=447) They’re not huge, but every little bit helps. My son’s (Graham Scholarship) is $1,000/year.

Also, look on the financial aid website for information about the general scholarship application that you can file annually (I believe the deadline is February, but it might be December). That makes you eligible for other merit scholarships that aren’t announced but are determined by individual schools and colleges. That may be how Tori-mom’s student got some of the awards she mentioned.

Yes, that’s correct.
D. got Glenn H. Doughty scholarship after submitting the general scholarship application ( $500/year for 2 years) and Alumni Assn Endowment scholarships (Graham Scholarship) after submitting Alumni application.

Thanks - this helps. I’m going to have her sit down soon and work on this.

Thanks so much for this post. Is there a specific link that we go to to apply for these scholarships that OOS can be eligible for?

As geezemom mentioned, for Alumni scholarship: [Mizzou.com - Incoming Student Scholarship](http://www.mizzou.com/s/1002/index.aspx?sid=1002&gid=1&pgid=447)
And a regular application for all students: https://sfa.missouri.edu/scholarshipapps/index.php</a></p>

Does Mizzou give any sort of National Merit Scholarship? I read somewhere that they do in-state tuition…

I think it is the same as the Mark Twain non-resident scholarship, and you dont even have to keep a 3.25, all you have to do is say mizzou is your first choice and you will be exempted from OOS tuition, (plus additional?)

National Merit
$1000-$2000 per year plus out-of-state fee waiver
Finalists must designate MU “first choice” with National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC)

Can the National Merit be combined with the Mark Twain for OOS students?

Nope. MT can not be combined with any other scholarship.

So that means that if one were to get the Mark Twain OOS scholarship, they cannot get any other scholarships (Alumni, departmental, etc)?

It can be combined with Alumni, departmental scholarships, but not with National Merit.

I just wanted to update this post for future parents or students wondering about getting scholarships gained by applying for the Mizzou scholarship application that was due by 12/1.

On MyZou it states D has qualified for a $2000 yr/ Columns Scholarship. So glad she took the time and we didn’t dismiss. It’s renewable with a 3.25 GPA.

Are there any kind of scholarships given out for International students?

Yes there is at least one. Did you apply/fill out the Mizzou Scholarship application by Dec 1st?

*Also note: For all scholarships listed below MU will not combine sub-scores from multiple test dates to determine scholarship eligibility. We will take the highest composite score from a single test date only.

I have a 3.4 GPA (My school does not rank) and a 27 ACT, and a non-resident. Do I qualify for Mark Twain at all? I only ask because my GPA is a bit low for my school and since my school doesn’t rank, I don’t know if that 3.4 GPA would keep me out of getting any money from Mark Twain entirely. Thanks!

" for students attending a non-ranking high school an equivalent core high school grade point average will be used to determine eligibility." ( [Mark Twain Nonresident Scholarship | Student Financial Aid | University of Missouri](http://financialaid.missouri.edu/types-of-aid/scholarships/scholarships/mark-twain-nonresident-scholarship/index.php) )

“Core GPA” = all English courses, all math courses Algebra I and higher, all science courses, all social studies courses, and all foreign language courses.
In any case you should be qualified for either $4K or $2K.
